Yoga this Week – September 29, 2013

“Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart.  Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language.  Do not now look for the answers.  They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them.  It is a question of experiencing everything.  At present you need to live the question.  Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.”
                                    Rainer Maria Rilke
Greetings dearest yoga students,
Being at peace with the unknown is one of the greatest accomplishments we can acheive moment by moment.  To be “okay” with not knowing how things will turn out means we must first banish fear and replace it with faith.  Increasing our capacity for faith immediatly allows us to let go of our percieved control over our life.  Having faith that things will turn out alright enables us experience all of life without having to figure everything out.   Living the question means to let the answers be revealed when it is time so that you can remain in the present moment without anxiety. Many precious moments are squandered away overthinking situations that either have already happened or haven’t happened yet.   So try to LOVE the question that this day brings as if you were turning a corner on a beautiful mountain and be open to the beauty that the landscape of your life lays out before you.

“Strength does not come from physical capacity.  It comes from an indomitable will.”
―     Mahatma Gandhi

Greetings Dear Yoga Students,

Welcome to Fall!!

We had such a wonderful time yesterday gliding across the Harbor to our sweet little island nestled in between Setauket Harbor and the Long Island Sound.  The air was warm, the sun was playing peek a boo and hearts were connected.  Taking our yoga out into nature is so invigorating and transformative.  We are connected, like the Global Mala that took place yesterday connecting yoga communities all over the world, to nature in all its forms.  We learned an important lesson during our paddle as well;  That nature is not to be taken for granted in any capacity.  The wind and waves were kicking up on our way back and we had to use our Kali Power to get us home.  It was exhilarating, at times difficult,  but worth every effort.  Our journey across the water reminded me that sometimes the way is easy and we can glide carefree through the waters of our life, however, it is in the times when we must paddle into the wind, against the flow, or into great resistance that we find the true sense of power that lies within us at all times.    Special thanks to Debbi and Bob, for keeping our kayaking crew safe and accounted for.  Jai, Jai, Jai!!  Victory!

You are one thing only. You are a Divine Being. An all-powerful Creator. You are a Deity in jeans and a t-shirt, and within you dwells the infinite wisdom of the ages and the sacred creative force of All that is, will be and ever was.”
―     Anthon St. Maarten

Yoga this Week – July 28, 2013

Birds are a miracle because they prove to us there is a finer, simpler state of being which we may strive to attain.                                                           Doug Coupland
 Good Morning dearest yoga students,
Step outside your door and take in all the amazing abundance of the natural world.  We can learn so much from natures rhythms as we allow her to nurture, sooth and remind us we are all part of the same whole.  I get a deep sense of comfort as I watch the birds fly back and forth from tree to tree.   They have the freedom and joy many of us long for.   The many varieties, sizes and colors interact and co-exist in harmony with each other and the world around them, adjusting from season to season with the ability to simply sing after a storm.   Take time to become aware of how the birds, the trees, the water, the wind are orchestrating a beautiful symphony all around you.  Allow yourself to soar into the day, whatever your plans.  Try to look up often, walk barefoot to experience the earth,  and enjoy the breeze as it caresses your skin.   Remind yourself you are as free as the birds in the air to sing your unique song in order to  make the world a better place.
“A bird does not sing because it has the answer.  It sings because it has a song.”

Yoga this Week – June 30, 2013

It is time. If you are to walk the path of heart, then it is time…”

If not now, when? If not me, who? To walk the path of the heart is a great honor. Every human has the choice to walk this path, but very few will decide to make it. Why? Well, because you can’t act and behave like everyone else behaves. You must be the person who will learn to look within. You must be the person who will be fully accountable for yourself. You must be the person who prays and meditates. You must be the person who will sacrifice. You must decide to be a Peaceful Warrior

–Nippawanock, ARAPAHOE

Greetings to all my Peaceful Warriors,

Hoping you all have enjoyed this wonderful summer weekend!  We will try for Sunset Yoga Classes on the beach – weather and tide permitting.   If you plan on joining in for Beach Yoga, we will meet at my house and carpool down to Hallock Landing Beach as I have a sticker to park in the lot – Check Email or FB Page by 5pm to see if class will be on the beach or in our yoga room.  If you decide to drive down on your own, please be mindful of the “No Parking” Signs.  Contact me if you have any questions.  I hope to continue this beautiful tradition of taking our yoga outdoors and I appreciate your patience as we work out the details.  I promise you, it is worth it!!!

Our freedom affords us a myriad of opportunities in our lives.   One of the most important ones is the opportunity to pursue any spiritual path we desire to explore in our own individual way. I express much gratitude to all of you for enabling me to bring yoga into your lives.  The freedom to teach yoga and bring the physical and spiritual disciplines to my students is a privilege that propels my spiritual path farther and wider than you will ever know.  Take a moment to say a prayer of gratitude to all those that fight for freedom in small and large ways and enjoy your life as it is today.

Leo Buscaglia

Greetings dear yoga students,
Hoping this email finds you well.  Spring is almost here and it is time to embrace our creativity and expression.  The visshudda chakra is the center of communication.  When it is balanced we can speak our truth with the wisdom of the heart and the integrity of the mind.  Words are powerful.  They have the ability to heal and destroy relationships.  The words we say to ourselves can empower us or block our own growth as well.   When we align our intellect with what is true for us by connecting to source for guidance, we can speak our truth with confidence and have the ability communicate clearly our wants and needs.  When our throat chakra is open and balanced we have the ability to hear others in the same way.
A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.
~Chinese Proverb
Saraswati:  Goddess of Creativity, Music and Wisdom
Pay attention to your throat and what rises up each time you feel the need to express yourself. To clear the energy in your throat, chant, sing, hum….open the gateway with vibrational energy.    Before your speak, pause… attention to what is rising up your throat and try to speak and vibrate the highest quality of energy.  As we explore the vishuddha chakra, let us focus on speaking our truth clearly and honestly in the most loving way possible to those in our lives and within our inner dialogue.  Listen to the birds sing as they return after the long winter.  Allow their song to fill you with joy, hope and peace…sing your song, speak your truth, dance into the day as creatively as you can expressing the only truth you can express; that which is inside you.
Some days there won’t be a song in your heart. Sing anyway. ~Emory Austin
Camel Pose to open the throat

Keep your words soft and tender because tomorrow you may have to eat them.
