” The Past and the Future is a joke to me now. I see that they’re nothin’. I see they ain’t here. The only thing that’s here is you and me…..I love you. Not, not like they told you love is….[the story books are bull],  love don’t make things nice, it ruins everything! It breaks your heart, it makes things a mess. We, we aren’t here to make things perfect. Snowflakes are perfect, stars are perfect. Not us! Not us!”

The above quote is one of my all time favorite movie lines.  We are not here to be perfect, for our lives to look flawless, to create what society’s idea of a beautiful life is.    We are here to have our hearts broken a thousand times because we are meant to experience the oceans of emotions our life is full of.  We are here to experience the wonder of being human; with all its hills and valleys,  like the moon we continually cycle through a myriad of phases to become whole again.  As we near the end of another year, embrace this truth:   That loving, and being truly vulnerable in your life doesn’t always look nice and that truly living wholeheartedly means taking the risk that sometimes your heart will break; sometimes you will make a  mess.

Our Yoga practice helps us remember that we are perfect just the way we are and that our lives our beautiful as they are.   Within our practice we may fall down,  sweat,  and sometimes struggle just to bear the truth of our bodies and minds but when  we get back up again and   return to our mats, “We breath and something in us softens, makes space for the imperfections”.  So let go of the storybook idea of how your life should look.  Let go and enjoy the scenery of  today.  Be vulnerable, be open, allow grief, joy, success and failure, falling down and getting back up to all be part of the great tapestry that is your life.  When you reach into the beauty of imperfection;   the crooked tree, the moon’s craters,  the clouded sky, tears in a loved one’s eyes, experience it fully, turning away from nothing that you find.  The messes will be there,  the heartaches will surface, the past and future are but memories and dreams, breathe it all in and find your joy in being present through it all for yourself and those around you.

  1. Hi Amy, I would love to come to the detox class but can’t confirm just yet, as flow is late this month. I will let you know as soon as it is clear. Wishing you peace and love in the New Year, Kishori
