“When you do your yoga practice, do it for more than the obvious physical benefits. Yoga gives us an opportunity to connect with that sacred self that lies beneath appearances, beyond belief systems and transcends even time. Yoga ignites our curiosity and expands our capacity for growth to help create a more meaningful, healthy and vital sense of living, not just for ourselves, but for all we come in contact with.” AP

Thank you to all who contributed to our Equinox Fundraiser. We collected $375 for the Food Pantry, in addition I will be adding $200 from both our Kayaking Trips for a grand total of $575! If you wish to contribute, let me know. I plan on sending it in after our next Kayak trip. (Which, by the way was postponed due to the high winds on Sunday morning, see below if you would like to join us). The Equinox was a beautiful expression of community. As special thank you to Jim, Derek and Steve who serenaded us with live music on the beach. We are so blessed to live and work in such an amazing place. May our efforts benefit all beings especially those closest to us! Jai!!

Holding the Balance-Ode to the Autumn Equinox

Our lives hold grief and balm in equal measure, light, darkness are two ends of the same stick.  How do we hold all this life, all these dualities of sadness and joy, receiving and letting go, failures and successes, dreams and regrets, doing and not doing? The Tao Te Ching tells us that when we become empty we receive all that we have been grasping for.  This emptying and filling is as natural as the turn of the seasons.  To learn to let go with the grace of a tree in fall, to go within to shine the light where it has remained dark.  To share our burdens and our joys together as we walk this life full of transitions.  As we empty and prepare for what is to come,  planting seeds of intention; we find gratitude as we give rise to what is germinating deep inside; we honor the balance of light and dark. Yoga this Week – August 30, 2020

“Yoga is a balancing factor, a substratum across all of your life, so you do not get shifted in one direction or another. It gives you freshness, gives you light, recharges your batteries. You become a stable person. You realize what balance is, what sukha is, what contentment is, what joy is.”
~ Birjoo Mehta

Hoping to see you all in class this week so together we can recharge, re-balance and stabilize to experience yoga’s true gifts;  sukha (sweetness), contentment and joy!!!

This Thursday I am organizing a Beach Hike at Smith’s Point.  We will meet between 8 and 815am at the West end of the parking lot.  The hike is about 45 minutes each way.  Once we get to the beautiful breach in the beach which is located to the west, we will stop and do a simple asana class before we hike back!  Text or email me if you would like to join me!  It’s worth getting up that early, trust me!

“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.”
Pema Chodren

Blessings and love to all those that are suffering today.  Suffering comes in many forms.  Inner and outer darkness, circumstances beyond our control and unexpected turn of events can all lead to suffering.  May our hearts turn for a moment to all those that are in the debts of suffering to recognize we are bound together by our humanity and offer our deepest compassion.

Yoga this Week – August 16, 2020

“The lesson which life constantly repeats is to ‘look under your feet.’
You are always nearer to the divine and the true sources of your power than you think.
The lure of the distant and the difficult is deceptive.
The great opportunity is where you are.
Do not despise your own place and hour.
Every place is under the stars.
Every place is the center of the world.”
― John Burroughs, Studies in Nature and Literature

Dear Yoga Students,

For reasons beyond our human understanding, we are here in this time and this hour.  We were meant to be here right now. Where you are is always where your true source of power is and where your greatest opportunities to learn and grow reside.  Yoga reminds us that all of our experiences, the difficult and the wonderful,  are worthwhile to explore.  Each moment is an opportunity to stop, connect and realize every place you are is the center of the world.
