Yoga Sutra 1:2 – Chitta Vritti Nirodha
Yoga is to quiet the mind long enough so we can become present to the experience that is in the here and now. Pema Chodron put it beautifully in speaking about meditation. “You are [essentially] training in interrupting the of the wandering mind and going right to the experience itself” When we “train” our minds to come back from wandering (into the future, past, fantasy or fear), the reality of our lives becomes clear and we are able to receive the moment in all its complexity and wholeness.
Please be sure to register for the class through zoom at least 30 minutes prior to start time. You can even register a few days in advance if you like. Any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks.
A few spots still open. Click https://myyogawithamy.com/spring-awakening-retreat-march-19-2022/ for details

Tomorrow is the first full moon of 2022! It is known as the Wolf Moon as there tends to be lots of howling going on this time of year! ” The wolf moon that comes in the dead of winter is a time for transformation and introspection. It is a times of figuring our what you need in order to have a successful life. It is also a time of seeing what is missing and finding truth in what you long for” Astrologer Stina Garbis writes. So take a deep breath and try howling at the moon, releasing any blocks that hold you back from your authentic self. Create an intention to enlighten your mind to see the open doors that are right in front of you and to have the courage to step through.

“Our practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already”
Pema Chodron
A happy, healthy, peaceful 2022 to you all! Instead of creating all those new year resolutions and self-shaming intentions, let’s try to befriend who we are in this moment. By sending ourselves loving kindness we give ourselves the space and time we need to examine our lives, our routines and the ways in which we may unconsciously sabotage our efforts. So in this new year, be kind to yourself, honor your struggles and do the things that bring you joy, create inner peace and the changes you seek to make will happen without force, fear or anguish.
Here is a beautiful message I received from Vivian after class on Friday, with her permission I copy it here. Thank you Vivian!!
So the word you spoke a number of times today that resonated with me was “soften”. I sometimes say to myself, soften your belly, when I’m feeling tight and closed. But just an all-purpose “soften” is good to have in my head. In fact I think my intention for the new year will be “soften into stillness.” If there’s anything we’ve been reminded of repeatedly these past 2 years is that we walk on groundlessness. So I’m trying to envision and hopefully embody softening into stillness so I can glide through my unpredictable days rather than tripping or slogging through them. Soften and glide in stillness, whatever life brings.

What do you want for 2022? Think about what really matters to you, write it down and work on making it happen. Authenticity, compassion, connections, good energy, adventures, are just some of the things I am willing to put in work to achieve. What I wish for the most, for every single one of us in in the chant at the bottom of this message. What are you willing to work for?

“In the heart of every person on this Earth
burns the spark of luminous goodness;
in no heart is there total darkness.
May we who celebrate this winter solstice,
by our lives and service, by our prayers and love,
call forth from one another the light and the love
that is hidden in every heart.” Edward Hayes

This year we will honor Winter Solstice with a virtual gathering on Tuesday Evening at 645pm with a meditation and gentle yoga. This class will replace our Wednesday evening class this week. If you plan to attend the solstice class, please have a candle ready to light, a couple pillows and blankets for some restorative poses.
Classes are being held in person with limited spots, please contact by email, text or phone if you would like a spot in person (Vaccinated Only Please) . Register for ZOOM live stream through the below links.
Please note: There will be no class on the following days: Wednesday 12/22, Friday 12/24, Monday 12/27, Tuesday 12/28 or Wednesday 12/29. There will be a special New Year’s Eve morning class on Friday 12/31 at 930am. Regular schedule resumes on January 3rd

Take this time to step out of the comings and goings and embrace the darkest of nights as a time of deep reflection. The word Solstice literally means Sun Stands Still. There is a moment of rare stillness as the sun stops before it begins to turn in the direction of increasing light. It is a time of celebration and gratitude for the ever changing seasons of our life honoring both the light and the dark and all the beautiful shades of gray in between.
May the peace of the winter solstice be upon you and yours!
Namaste,
Amy
