Hari Om Dear Yoga Students,

“Santosha, or the practice of contentment, is the ability to feel satisfied within the container of one’s immediate experience”

Donna Farhi

Flowers, Hugs and Meditation – Valentine's Day – TriBalance Yoga Center

Feeling satisfied within the container of one’s immediate experience means to meet the present moment with a fresh perspective and open up to everything it has to offer.  Satisfaction combines the energies of acceptance and gratitude.  Contentment is not based on what you think you need to be satisfied, but more a sense of gratitude for what you already have. Santosha is, in a broader sense, about being content with your loved ones; not trying to change or coerce them to be something other then that who they are, loving them unconditionally. The ability to feel satisfied within the container of your immediate experience comes when you allow your expectations to fade and your perceptions to clear enabling you to become empty of past impressions or expectations;   this is the practice of yoga, this is the practice of Santosha.

Greetings dearest friends

Letting go of fears is one of the hardest parts of walking this spiritual path.  If we hold on to fears of  the future, fears of mistakes we’ve made in the past, fears of not being enough, doing enough, we miss out on the beauty and sacredness of the present moment. When fear arises try and remind yourself that there is a divine plan at work. Ishvara pranidhana whispers a reminder to soften, relax, let go and trust there is a higher intelligence at work.  Feel the release as you breathe out. Embrace the now with all you’ve got for it is truly all we ever have.

Yoga this Week-January 23, 2022-No Friday Class

Yoga Sutra 1:2 – Chitta Vritti Nirodha

Yoga is to quiet the mind long enough so we can become present to the experience that is in the here and now. Pema Chodron put it beautifully in speaking about meditation. “You are [essentially] training in interrupting the of the wandering mind and going right to the experience itself” When we “train” our minds to come back from wandering (into the future, past, fantasy or fear), the reality of our lives becomes clear and we are able to receive the moment in all its complexity and wholeness.

Tomorrow is the first full moon of 2022! It is known as the Wolf Moon as there tends to be lots of howling going on this time of year! ” The wolf moon that comes in the dead of winter is a time for transformation and introspection. It is a times of figuring our what you need in order to have a successful life. It is also a time of seeing what is missing and finding truth in what you long for” Astrologer Stina Garbis writes. So take a deep breath and try howling at the moon, releasing any blocks that hold you back from your authentic self. Create an intention to enlighten your mind to see the open doors that are right in front of you and to have the courage to step through.

Happy New Year-Yoga this Week-January 2, 2022

“Our practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already”

Pema Chodron

A happy, healthy, peaceful 2022 to you all! Instead of creating all those new year resolutions and self-shaming intentions, let’s try to befriend who we are in this moment. By sending ourselves loving kindness we give ourselves the space and time we need to examine our lives, our routines and the ways in which we may unconsciously sabotage our efforts. So in this new year, be kind to yourself, honor your struggles and do the things that bring you joy, create inner peace and the changes you seek to make will happen without force, fear or anguish.

Here is a beautiful message I received from Vivian after class on Friday, with her permission I copy it here. Thank you Vivian!!

So the word you spoke a number of times today that resonated with me was “soften”. I sometimes say to myself,  soften your belly, when I’m feeling tight and closed. But just an all-purpose “soften” is good to have in my head. In fact I think my intention for the new year will be “soften into stillness.” If there’s anything we’ve been reminded of repeatedly these past 2 years is that we walk on groundlessness. So I’m trying to envision and hopefully embody softening into stillness so I can glide through my unpredictable days rather than tripping or slogging through them. Soften and glide in stillness, whatever life brings.
