If we go with the river, the energy of a thousand mountain streams will be with us, filling our hearts with courage and enthusiasm.  If we resist the river, we will feel ranked and tired as we tread water in the same place”.  Elizabeth Lesser from “Broken Open”

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Allow yourself to flow today like the rain from the sky with no resistance to the natural cycles of life .   Let go of your perceived control and try to be okay with the uncertainty that our human lives are destined to experience.  Pema Chodron warns us that “a real cause of suffering is not being able to tolerate uncertainly – and thinking that it’s perfectly sane, perfectly normal, to deny the fundamental groundlessness of being human”.  We can walk each day with faith, do the next right thing that is in front of us and relax into the mystery flowing with the energy of a  thousand mountain streams.

“Citta Vritti Nirodhaha: Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind”
Yoga Sutra 1:2
Hari Ohm dearest yoga students
Hoping this email finds you well and experiencing some aspect of your ability to maintain equanimity in your life. It is important to remember that Yoga is a state of mind.
You can be in a state of yoga wherever you are and whatever you are doing.  Attaining one pointed focus (pratyahara)  while making a meal, playing with your child or taking a walk are all states of yoga, even if only for brief moments in time. When we are truly present, we calm the fluctuations of the mind instead amplifying them.  Simply stopping and taking a breath can stop you from  getting caught up in the “monkey mind” that jumps around from fear to fear, judgement to judgement taking you for a wild ride into a tangled web of thought. By re-focusing your thoughts on the task or activity at hand, you can discover calmness and clarity, your yoga, in all you do.

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Nourishment is so vital to our health and overall well being. Nourishment comes in many forms.   We need healthy, well balanced food to keep our physical body optimal,  good conversation  to feed our souls, community gatherings and celebrations to lift our spirits and thought provoking teachings to stimulate our minds.  I can’t express in words how our intimate yoga community nourishes me on so many levels.  Last nights drum circle was so extremely uplifting, creating connections with new friends and re-kindling and affirming long time relations.  Connection is so important to living a purpose filled, blessed life.  I hope all of you know you are a vital part of this community and it would not exist if you didn’t show up, whether you come week after week or show up for special events.    In the words of Jack Licitra, “You Are Awesome” and together WE are awesome too!

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Hope this shift in the weather has reminded you of the promise of Spring; it comes in just over 6 weeks!!  Let this shift remind us that nothing lasts, that everything is impermanent and passes away; weather pleasurable and warm or uncomfortable and freezing!  Things shift and we shift with them.  Remembering that shifting, changing and becoming is what we were born for.   Enjoy the journey and let your heart be at peace.  Join us this week for two very special gatherings.  Tuesday’s Reiki Circle and/or the Community Drum Circle on Saturday night!  All are welcome.

Woman With Flower

by Naomi Long Madgatt

I wouldn’t coax the plant if I were you.

Such watchful nurturing may do it harm.

Let the soil rest from so much digging and wait until it’s dry before you water it.

The leaf’s inclined to find its own direction;

Give it a chance to seek the sunlight for itself.

Much growth is stunted by too much prodding,

Too eager tenderness.

The things we love we have to learn to leave alone.

*Only Three Spots left for the Synergy Session on January 22nd*

Dearest Yoga Students,

Yoga gives specific tools to lead a well balanced life, full of love, presence and adventure.  All we need to do is continue to follow our breath, open our minds, and move energy in our bodies to feel the fullness of being alive.  As we become more aware of our habits, and how our state of mind effects our actions, it is only natural that we begin to make better decisions.   Join us this week as we once again clear away the clutter to find what is always waiting for us, freedom!

Yoga this Week – December 30, 2018

Dear Yoga Enthusiasts,

I love when a student emails me to ask for a poem I read in class, or to comment about a pose or a feeling they encountered during practice. I love getting feedback from you!  So please don’t hesitate to comment to me whether its something positive or something I need to be aware of to improve your experience.  I read the  following poem last week and was asked to share it.  You may want to print it and pull it out whenever Winter is getting the best of you!  I know I will. (Scroll down for the poem).

Love, light and peace as we begin this next trip around the sun!

Happy New Year to you all!

Winter Teaches Me by Joyce Rupp

Winter teaches me patience:

Walk carefully on icy sidewalks. Drive slower through snarled traffic.

Take more time to put on layers of clothes.  Wait for streets to be cleared of snow.

Be understanding about mail arriving late.

Winter strengthens my courage:

Go out into windy, freezing air.Risk traveling on snowy roads.

Dress warmly and go for a walk.  Ski through woods, alone and free.

Be a peace in long days of darkness.

Winter brings me beauty:

Look up at the star-filled sky. Pause to breathe the crisp air.

Vigil with steel-blue sunsets.  Marvel at the frost etchings on windows.

Sink boots into soft, sensual powder.

Winter gives me silent hope:

Touch the terminal buds on branches.Clear the snow and find green moss below.

Watch the sunlight fade, then linger longer.Stand with the strength of evergreen trees.

Listen to the birds cheeping at the feeder.

Namaste Dear Ones,

Amy
