“He [came to] realize that identifying his practice with things that could be lost [advanced postures & breath work, deep states of meditation], would always leave him susceptible to fear anything that could be taken away through sickness aging or life circumstances was not a very wise thing to stand on. It was then that he realized that the only security lay in using his yoga practice to tether his awareness to the part of himself that was and is eternal. It is in this tethering of awareness to the unchanging core of our being that true security can be gained….As our practice deepens and we gain confidence and courage, we develop a growing appetite for this groundlessness and we start to yearn for a more liberated and open experience of ourselves and we become more willing to let go of old hand holds. We start to feel a resolute commitment to real freedom & we become vigilant about things that offer the trappings of freedom but fall short of delivering the goods” Donna Farhi from Bringing Yoga to Life
Greetings dearest yoga students,
The above excerpt from Donna Farhi’s book is, in essence, describing what Patanjali wrote about in the Yoga Sutra’s called Kleshas. Kleshas are basically the core confusion of what is permanent with what is impermanent and the suffering we cause ourselves when we try to hold on to the impermanent things. We all have fear of losing things we hold dear. It may be loved ones, our jobs, our health, our strength, our physical appearance or the myriad of ego driven personas we believe ourselves to be. Finding rest within this “groundlessness” of living with the truth of uncertainty allows us to see through false promises, let go and live with freedom, peace and joy!

Hi Amy! Is there a class tomorrow morning? I didn’t see your e-mail this week for some reason. If there is a spot and a class, I plan to come. Thanks, Susan
