Yoga this Week-Schedule Changes November 21, 2021

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hope this evening finds you compassionately honoring yourself and what you need to maintain balance. To move gracefully through time, we must honor the seasons; the coming and going of light, days, years and simply be as present as possible.    Have the awareness to savor the sights, sounds, and aromas of each passing day as we move into the darkest part of the year. If gratitude is the highest form of yoga, I try to practice it every day. Whenever I am overwhelmed with joy, happiness, grief or fear, I try to remember to practice Gratitude, especially for the small, seemingly insignificant things like teaching a class, walking my dog, cooking dinner or hugging my family. So many things to be thankful for and you are one of them.

“The things that matter most in our lives are not fantastic or grand. They are the moments when we touch one another.”  Jack Kornfield

 Aparigraha: greedlessness, non-attachment

“The yogi feels that the collection or hoarding of things implies a lack of faith in God and in himself to provide for the future….By the observance of aparigraha, the yogi makes his life as simple as possible and trains his mind not to feel the loss or the lack of anything. Then everything he really needs will come to him by itself at the proper time.”BKS Iyengar

It is fitting to talk about generosity and non-greed as we approach the season of Thanksgiving. Working with aparigraha requires a letting go and a giving heart.  It is releasing the need to come from a place of lack knowing there is always enough.  Think about it…don’t we always seem to get what we need although we may not always get what we desire.  Learning to live from an attitude of abundance allows you to give freely and walk your path with serenity.  Greed is based on fear and fear leads us to cling to impermanent things (money, titles, people, things..).  Clinging will not lengthen your life, bring lasting happiness or keep you safe.  So we enter this season with gratitude for the abundance of all things beautiful and sacred in our lives.

Lakshmi Goddess of Fortune and Prosperity Painting by Ananda Vdovic

The goddess Lakshmi is known as the goddess of Prosperity and Abundance. She reminds us that as long as we are aligned with our Dharma (the concept of living a directed life in accordance with cosmic laws and moral & ethical codes) all we desire will flow to us effortlessly with more than enough to share. The abundance is all around us, all we have to do is stop and

The Goddess Saraswati is worshipped for her creativity, wisdom, purity and gentleness.   She is said to bestow eloquence, intelligence and artistic inspiration to all who meditate on her transcendental qualities.   Her calming peaceful presence reminds us of the great power of Shakti (the feminine energy that is said to be the catalyst of change and creation with love as the driving force) and the ultimate divine mother.  We can meditate upon her to reconnect to the essence of our own true, divine nature where all of these beautiful qualities have always, and will always exist.

“May the great river of Saraswati overflow and grant us her grace”

Love this. Bundle up and get ready for this next half of Fall…

Samhain (the Celtic Quarter Day that falls on Halloween) brings restoration and renewal, as the cold weather closes in, so the soul is led to more reflective depths. It is traditionally associated with the remembrance of the ancestors, with the coming of death and the conception of new life. In the human growth cycle, Samhain corresponds to the period of old age when wisdom, freedom of spirit and clarity are experienced. Samhain is a good time to celebrate the lives of all wise elders, all those whose actions and ideas have brought resolution and peace, all holy ones whose sacrifice have brought new life and opened spiritual thresholds to all.~ Words by Caitlín Matthews

“Falling down doesn’t make you a failure, but staying down does”

Greetings dearest yoga students,

As many times as we get knocked down, it is the getting up that really matters. Remember to be gentle with yourself each time something gets in your way, delays your gratification or literally takes you down. As you look on at someone else’s success, remember behind that seemingly effortless act, most times countless hours of work and failures brought them to the place they are now at. To achieve excellence, you must be willing to continue with faith each time you fail. A failure is not necessarily a sign that it’s over but could possibly mean you are one step closer towards your goal. Be willing to fail, be willing to be vulnerable, be willing to look foolish as you go confidently in the direction of your dreams.

Internet is back up!

Class is on for tomorrow on zoom and in person. let me know if you’d like a spot in the yoga room.

It’s amazing how debilitated you can feel with the loss of Internet these days. To tell the truth, it was nice to just sit in the quiet light of the full moon and talk without distraction.

See you tomorrow morning

Shanti
