“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”  Leo Buscaglia

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you well.  Spring is here and it is time to embrace our creativity and express our individuality in all we do.   The visshudda chakra is the center of communication and self expression.  When it is balanced we can speak our truth with the wisdom of the heart and the integrity of the mind.  Words are powerful.  They have the ability to heal and destroy relationships.  The words we say to ourselves can empower us or block our own growth.  When we align with our own truth, with the help of divine guidance,  we can speak  with confidence and have the ability to communicate clearly.  When our throat chakra is open and balanced,  we also have the ability to hear others in the same way.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.
~Chinese Proverb

THE BIRD'S SONG: Learn from birds how to live in the now | The Mindful Word

Pay attention to your throat and what rises up each time you feel the need to express yourself, do you block it, deny it, stuff it down?   To clear the energy in your throat, chant, sing, hum….open the gateway with vibrational energy.    As we explore the vishuddha chakra, let us focus on speaking our truth clearly and honestly in the most loving way possible to those in our lives and within our inner dialogue.  Take in the energy of the blue sky.   Listen to the birds sing as they return after the long winter.  Allow their song to fill you with joy, hope and peace…sing your song, speak your truth, dance into the rhythms of the day as creatively as you can expressing the only truth you can express; that which is inside you.

Some days there won’t be a song in your heart. Sing anyway. ~Emory Austin

Anodea Judith
Greetings dearest Yoga Students,
The Anahata Chakra is the point of transition between the lower grounding, earthly chakras to the higher, more spiritually based chakras in the upper body.  The Anahata is the chakra balances perfectly in the center between the lower and upper chakras.  It draws up from the lower chakras; the stability of the root, the mobility of the sacrum and the power at the solar plexus to be able to be open and free while simultaneously drawing  down from the top three; spirit let guidance, intuitive vision and verbal expression so that the heart can be balanced to both receive and give love.
The heart chakra focuses on being in a state of acceptance of life which radiates peace, kindness and compassion internally and externally to ourselves and those around us.  When the heart chakra is balanced,  you choose to see the good and beautiful around you and feel a strong connection to the divine presence in yourself as gratitude is a common result of an open heart.  After all, this is the week we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day so when you begin seeing the green all around you, silently take a breath into your heart chakra and know you are loved!

Lao Tzu

The Third Chakra – Manipura – Jewel of the Navel

Color:   Yellow     Physical Location:  Solar plexus     Seed Sound – RAM

      Greetings dearest yoga students,

This week’s study takes us to the third chakra located in our solar plexus, the Manipura.  This chakra is deeply associated with the relationship you have with yourself.  It deals with self-esteem, personal power and knowing who you are and trusting in your intuition or “gut feeling” to guide you into manifesting your desires and dreams.

I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my shipLouisa May Alcott

Carolyn Myss describes an element of the Third Chakra in her book Anatomy of the Spirit  as “While we measure our own success in terms of our personal comfort and security, the universe measures our success by how much we have learned”.    The Manipura Chakra is associated with the element of fire, and is meant to transform and challenge us to find our inner strength and connection to our individual higher power when dealing with the world in which we live.  When we truly find our own personal power,  it creates a beautiful inner strength that both supports us and nurtures us from the inside.  Fuel your inner fire by repeating the mantra, “RAM” as your read the words below  connecting to that area below your rib cage an around your navel, the Manipura.

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.  Anais Nin

Mount Sinai Hike is on, Meet us at 2pm today

Yay!  We are getting out and getting together, in person!

Where appropriate shoes, the trail may be a little mushy from the melting snow.

Mount Sinai Congregational Church at 233 N Country Rd, Mt Sinai, NY 11766.  The parking for the trail is in front of the cemetery on the left side of building.  Just drive straight in from the entrance to the dirt parking lot.  (social distancing/with masks)

See you there,

Amy

Take a Hike (with me that is) !!!

Greetings yoga enthusiasts,

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 3rd,  is supposed to be a warm 45 Degree afternoon.  I would like to take a walk together.  There is a beautiful trail behind the Mount Sinai Congregational Church in Mount Sinai that I have walked often.  It is pretty flat and at has a gorgeous view of the back of Mt Sinai Harbor at the end of the trail.  It would take about 45 minutes or so.

Let me know if anyone would like to meet at 2pm.  I am only going to go if you join me, (I would never walk alone in the woods).  You can respond back to this email or text me tomorrow morning before 12pm.  I will post if the walk is going to happen or not.

Here’s the address 233 N Country Rd, Mt Sinai, NY 11766.  The parking for the trail is in front of the cemetery on the left side of building.  Just drive straight in from the entrance to the dirt parking lot.

So, whos in for an uplifting walk together (social distancing/with masks) tomorrow?

Shanti!!  Keep Smiling

Amy

Svadhishthana (sva = vital force; adishthana = seat)

Element: Water   Color: Orange  Mantra: VAM

Hari Om Dear Yoga Students,

This week we will explore the Svadhishthana Chakra, also known as the Sacral Chakra which is all about relationship. If our sacral chakra is balanced we can trust, feel free and allow ourselves to be deeply connected, in a healthy way without attachment,  to people, places and things in our life. It is the seat of creativity, procreation and sexual energy. Its element is water which when allowed to flow freely, no forcing and no holding back, guides us down the river of our life. All of life is movement; relationships ebb and flow, children grow, our bodies change with each passing year as do the people, places and things around us. Connecting to the vital force of our Svadhishthana chakra allows us to flow moment to moment, open and receptive to our emotions allowing us to meet each passing day with creativity, confidence and truth.
