Yoga This Week – August 15, 2021

The important thing is to be awake now, to feel the transparency, to feel the universal shining through the individual, and then to allow life to express itself though us.

               Rolf Gates

Are you awake??  Yoga practice give us the tools to be wholeheartedly awake to all that is happening inside and outside of ourselves. It beckons us to be aware, be diligent, be alive.  Taking the time to quiet our own chattering minds allows us to connect to that universal energy that is in all things.  To be clear and translucent is to allow the divine light to pass through with clarity and enables us to express the love we hold deep within  our hearts to the world. Take a moment or more and go outside.   Sit silently and connect to your breath.  Close your eyes and begin listening to sounds of the natural world.  Breathe it all in and interact with it.  Allow the air of your breath to pass through you with clarity.   Let go of your need to control your outer circumstances, feel the fluidity and transparency of life.  We are not solid; we are light, joy, love and bliss anytime we make the decision to connect to that universal energy and allow “life to express itself through us”.

I want to truly thank all of you who reached out to me during this difficult time of my Husband’s surgery. It will take a little while but he is on the mend. It was so very comforting to know you were all sending love and light to us both. It certainly woke us all up to gratitude for being alive and all the love that surrounded us. Very grateful to be getting back to our schedule and I hope to see you all soon.

“When experiencing absolute true knowledge, all previous samskaras (patterns) are left behind and new ones are prevented from sprouting” Yoga Sutra I.50

5987d-goddes-01

Hari Om dear yoga students,

The Sanskrit word, samskara, translates as a subconscious impression.  Samskaras are deep seeded patterns that our mind continues to play over and over again.  It is the thoughts, impressions and memories that we have acquired over our lifetimes that create conditioned responses and eventually become our habits. When we feel stuck in our lives or continue to approach situations the same way over and over again, hoping for different results, it is often due to our samskaras.  However, we can and do create new samskaras all the time; some produce positive tendencies, like committing to meditate or practice yoga everyday or some create new negative coping mechanisms like stuffing our emotions with self sabotaging behavior.

As we step on our mat, do our pranayama or sit on our meditation cushion, we face ourselves from the inside.  The stillness within the movement of thoughts, breaths or postures help to create space in between our impulses and actions.   This space allows us to look at our patterns more like the weather around us; we are in the weather but we are not the weather.    The weather changes but we remain the same.   We are not what our samskaras tell us, we can make the choice from a clear, calm perspective and thus respond to situations with a calm abiding. begin to release negative samskaras and replace them with loving, wise and creative patterns that enhance our life and everyone we interact with.

Yoga this week – august 1, 2021

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Having spend an amazing week with a beautiful Sangha of like minded individuals learning what it means to truly have yoga as a life long practice has solidified my commitment to continue on this path.

We have come to our last of the five Kleshas (afflictions that cause us suffering) which is Abhinivesha: Fear of Death or the Dilemma of Impermanence. Abhinivesha rears it head when are delluded into thinking that something is supposed to be permanent and, therefore we become afraid of losing it. This fear leads us to trying to hold on (Raga-Attachment) or trying to push away (Dvesha-Aversion) what we don’t want. All the kleshas in someway lead us back to Abhinivesha, the fear of death or letting something go in it’s right time. This is also the hardest one to make peace with. Even the sutras themselves remind us that “fear of death arises all on its own, and exists even for the most learned and wise.” (YS 2.9)

So how to we rise above the affliction of this, the most difficult klesha of them all? It is through a commitment to our practice, studying our own tendencies, tapping into the wisdom of those that came before us and finally surrendering to what is. Giving up the attachments and the aversions and making peace with how life has shown up for you in any given moment recognizing “this too shall pass”. Impermanence, death, letting go are part of the natural flow of life. Practice becomes simply honoring the truth of impermanence so you can appreciate the present moment allowing the future to unfold exactly how it is meant to be.

Yoga this Week – July 25, 2021

Sometimes the future is blurred. Not sure what lies ahead. Moving into the unknown can be difficult. It is at this moment we can turned to that foggy vision and allow the the journey to unfold. Holding the not knowing in your heart with compassion Right here and right now inside you is enough. ♥️

No classes this week while I’m on retreat (from just the opening session I just know you are going to love what jewels I bring back)

However there will be class Saturday morning 7/31 at 11am at The park behind Tilda’s. It’s a really nice space under the awning. All welcome!

detachment

“Detachment is simply letting go of all you hold fast to in your mind. It doesn’t actually mean losing anything, simply changing your relationship with the things in your life today. The greatest pleasure for every soul comes as a result of choosing detachment. Why? Because attachment is a form of slavery that takes place in our own minds. And the result of detachment? Real freedom”

warr iii let go
Raga:  The Klesha of Attachment

Raga is translated at attachment and attachment causes suffering when we try to hang on to things that are impermanent or chase after a a certain experience that caused us pleasure.  Like all the kleshas, or afflictions, at their core lies confusion of what is permanent and impermanent, real and unreal and largely based in fear.  Unhealthy attachment is born of fear of not getting what we want, fear of losing what we have, fear of letting go.

The opposite of fear is faith.  So to release the grip of Raga we need to have faith and a deep understanding that the the comings and goings of all we love and find comfort in are a natural part of the cycle of life; letting go allows you to access the peace of mind you seek.  When we make decisions from a truly detached place; from a place of calm abiding, wisdom and love, we set the inner spirit free to move us toward all that is good, true, and right in our lives.   Letting go of attachments to how things should be, of what we need to be whole, happy human beings,  allow our lives to be a  journey of wonder, gratitude and contentment.

Do not try to save the whole world or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create a clearingin the dense forest
of your life and wait there patiently, until the song
that is your life falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know how to give yourself
to this world so worthy of rescue.

Yoga on Zoom this morning at 9 a.m.

Good morning friends I had

I was going to begin to have a few students in the yoga room and the weather wasn’t cooperating. However the cul-de-sac is filled with water and looks like a lake so parking would be horrendous. Yoga will be on Zoom only this morning. If you’d like to attend click on the link and register. Stay dry stay safe it looks crazy out there.
