Yoga this Week-12-20-20 & Winter Solstice Gathering tomorrow night!

Together

We call down grace,

and gaze without wavering into the fires of creation

We find the place where

Love embraces fear and tears taste like faith

We let our radiance be revealed in laughter and in longing

We hold the whole of life, sweet grapes and bitter, healing herbs

We hold until we overflow

and offer back the gifts that we’ve received

The vessel never empties.

The growing love between us keeps it filled

Donna Faulds

Here we are nearing the wonderful Winter Solstice.   As I was adding the photos to the slide show I plan to show at our Virtual Gathering on Monday Evening, I am struck by the connections, both new, old and lost that we have made during these 13 years of practicing together.  I honor all you are, the light and dark, the courageous and vulnerable, the strength and the weak.  You add so much color and spark to my life.  It’s simply to hard to express what you all have meant to me!  As the above poem states so beautifully, our Kula, our Community of the Heart never empties for it is the growing love between us that keeps it filled!  I truly hope you can come to our virtual gathering this coming Monday (link & details below) and garner strength, healing and light together as we call down grace and welcome the turning of the Seasons.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”

                                   Brene Brown

Connection.  Interdependence.  Strength.  Love.  Acceptance. Understanding…..These are the things that sustain our human relationships.  It has never been more clear to me how vital my relationships are to the quality of my life.  When we feel seen, heard and valued we receive energy that gives us strength and courage to carry on.  Offering this gift of truly valuing another, creates  a synergistic energy that cannot be explained with words but must be felt with the heart.    In the midst of our yoga practice our we create an energy/synergy within ourselves.  We are saying “body, mind, spirit, I see you, I hear you and I value you” and this truly is yoga; to unite all of ourselves to “derive sustenance and strength from the relationship”

Yoga this Week – December 6, 2020

“Amazing isn’t it how some people see the basket half empty and others see it half full.  Some see life hopeless; others hopeful.  Even when things are less than perfect, if you can think of the good, the beautiful, the hopeful, you’ll be more than sustained–you’ll conquer“
Even though we are all going through a time in our lives we never dreamed of we can still practice resting our minds upon what is good and beautiful,  cultivating hope for ourselves and others. Try to enjoy being a learner when things aren’t going your way.  You may just find that by focusing on the positive,  the peace and joy of the divine spirit that lives in all things will be close at hand supporting, and uplifting your day.  Yield to the darkness at this time of year and allow it to nurture you instead of close you in.  Rest, read, cook, be still, light a candle and count your blessings!

MENTE SUPRACONSCIENTE
Normalmente sólo conocemos tres estados de conciencia: estar despiertos, soñar y dormir. Hay, sin embargo, un cuarto estado, el supraconsciente, que los trasciende.
En los primeros tres estados la mente no tiene suficiente...

Be Self-controlled!  Give!  Be Compassionate!

Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
om black
This is the true aim of yoga, this is the goal.  To learn to control the mind when it leans towards selfishness, egoism, fear and negativity.  The ultimate aim of all our yoga practices are to bring our focus inward so we realize all the peace we seek comes from our true divine nature.  A yogi feels the lack of nothing, therefore, there is no need for hoarding, competition or greed.
Be Self-Controlled by following an ethical path. Give by coming from a place of abundance.  Be Compassionate so others can gain strength and healing from your strong spirit.
This is the aim of yoga, these are the true goals and the world needs us more than ever right now!

Hari Om! happy Thanksgiving – november 26, 2020

Gratitude is not only a feeling but it is an energy that moves through you, opens the doorway to your heart and creates a magnet that attracts love and joy. As I reflect on all of your beautiful faces, the door of my heart opens and I consciously send out prayers of peace, hope and love to you all. We have been through a lot together and I consider you more than yoga students, but connected souls that are traveling this journey along side of me. You see teaching yoga is reciprocal, each time you come into my line of vision, you also teach me. . It is when the students become the teachers that the real meaning of connection (yoga) comes alive.

It is in that context, that I truly Thank You All, for joining me on this path. So much gratitude flowing in and out like the rain I watch pouring into the earth to nourish the land, you all feel my soul and continue to keep me present and grateful for being able to do what I love!

Hoping you all have a wonderfully unique Thanksgiving Day! Join me Friday Morning for a gentle restorative Class. Sign up on Zoom if interested. https://myyogawithamy.com/live-zoom-on-line-classes/

*Gratitude Class Wednesday Eve*

May all hearts be at ease. May our contentment promote the energies to alleviate suffering and turn ignorance into knowledge. May the cultivation of santosha guide us to courageous action, deeper community and greater love of all sentient beings.

                                          Swami Shraddhananda

namaste flow

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Santosha is one of the Niyamas outlined in the eight limbs of yoga.  Niyamas are ethical practices that cultivate self awareness which creates inner peace.    Santosha means contentment.  To be content with whatever is.  It is a way to think about life’s conundrums  as a series of predicaments that beg for our attention, creativity, compassion and openness.  Like waves on the ocean these situations continue to arise,  resolve and arise once more.  By Shifting our perspective from aversion to exploration  we transform our obstacles into stepping stones on which we grow.   Contentment is now, not when things get better, not when we have all we think we need, it is now, in this moment.  It allows us to love all of life, opening our hearts and clearing it out of judgment as to what we consider “good” or “bad”.  Contentment allows our hearts to be at ease and guides us to courageous action!

Wednesday Evening Class will be a special Gratitude Thanksgiving Eve Class.  Please have a candle and lighter handy for a special candle meditation and get ready to count all your blessings!

Please make sure to check your email or website prior to heading out for the 1pm Wednesday Yoga Walk at Heritage Park.  Weather, life, etc, may get in our way.  I am planning on walking this week but will post Wednesday by noon to confirm or cancel.

“The most effective way to reduce health costs is to reduce demand, and the easiest way to do that is by Self Care”

Leonard Perlmutter

Hari Om dear yoga students,
Taking time for yourself, especially right now as so many of us are off our routines, uncertain of what is to come and possibly isolated from friends and family, is so very important.  Do your best to take any amount of time you can spare and do something nurturing for yourself.  Whatever is most appropriate for you today; read something spiritual, funny or uplifting, bundle up and take a walk, do some yoga, make a healthy meal,  take a hot bath, meditate, journal or simply slow down the pace and practice being present.  Build up some self-care in the bank of your life and watch how your investment grows, prospers and enables you to face anything that comes your way.
