Yoga this Week – October 18, 2020

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Hope this email finds you enjoying the changing landscape as we move deeper into Fall.  Get outdoors as much as you possibly can.  Nature allows us to connect to that timeless self we can easily loose sight of among the never ending commitments, appointments and to do lists that bombard our days.  It is imperative to take time to nurture your spirit, creativity and freedom; your well being depends on it.

Speaking of well being, I have decided to forgo having any students physically present in the yoga room.  It just does not feel like the right thing to do at this time.   As weather forces everyone indoors more often, the risk of spreading germs increases.  I hope you all understand there is nothing more I would like than to see you in person for your practice.  The outdoor classes will continue as long as we can and I plan to stream all classes on zoom.  When outdoor classes become impossible, I have a plan to put a Yoga Walk Talk Meditation Practice on the schedule on Wednesday afternoons.  More details on that next week but for now See below the letter of gratitude we received from Friends Kitchen for our collective donation!

Enjoy some pictures from our Smithpoint walk, it was a magical morning.

Smithpoint Beach Hike Tomorrow-1030am

Greetings,

Tomorrow is a group hike to the breach at SmithPoint Beach.  It is a lovely walk and tomorrow’s weather looks perfect.

We will meet at 1030am on the far west end of the parking lot.  Drive through the toll booth and continue heading all the way west till you can’t go anymore.  You will see me by my Black Chrysler 300 waiting happily for you.

You should were good sneakers or walking shoes, bring water and a snack or lunch.  We will stop at the breach, do a few yoga poses, enjoy the scenery, take a break and hike back.

If you can let me know if you plan to be there, I will look out for you!

My cell is 6318390644 in case you are running late, we will wait!

Jai!

Amy

mlk darkness

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Love & Light are the only ways to combat darkness and hate.  Become aware of your thoughts when they begin to become dark and release them before they take hold and turn into actions or words you may regret. A Sanskrit term found in the yoga sutras is “Heyam Dukham Anagatam” which means “The pain that is yet to come can be avoided.”   We all have dark thoughts, we are human, but they do not become real until we cultivate them and then act from that place so remind yourself, again and again, that  Love & Light are always the best answer.

Hari Om Dear Yoga Students,

Just a reminder that tonight’s class begins at 645pm.  Dress in layers, bring something to lay your mat on (some found using a shower curtain or sheet works well) and a blanket for relaxation.

A few of us have been interested in starting a book club.  The meetings will be held on zoom until further notice.  This is a fun, informal club (not necessarily yoga related) and will be hosted by various members.  Here is the invite if interested.  We will be picking a book shortly.  If you have questions, let me know!  So excited about finally doing this.

yoga this week – september 20, 2020

“When you do your yoga practice, do it for more than the obvious physical benefits. Yoga gives us an opportunity to connect with that sacred self that lies beneath appearances, beyond belief systems and transcends even time. Yoga ignites our curiosity and expands our capacity for growth to help create a more meaningful, healthy and vital sense of living, not just for ourselves, but for all we come in contact with.” AP

Thank you to all who contributed to our Equinox Fundraiser. We collected $375 for the Food Pantry, in addition I will be adding $200 from both our Kayaking Trips for a grand total of $575! If you wish to contribute, let me know. I plan on sending it in after our next Kayak trip. (Which, by the way was postponed due to the high winds on Sunday morning, see below if you would like to join us). The Equinox was a beautiful expression of community. As special thank you to Jim, Derek and Steve who serenaded us with live music on the beach. We are so blessed to live and work in such an amazing place. May our efforts benefit all beings especially those closest to us! Jai!!

Tonight’s Equinox Gathering is Full to Capacity!

Hari Om dear yoga students,

Please be advised:   If you have not contacted me and I have not confirmed your spot for tonight’s gathering, it is now full.

Due to social distancing logistics, the attendance is limited.  If it were not for this, I would love to have you all!!!

For those of you that have signed up, try to carpool when possible and arrive at the parking lot before 645pm.  The lot will be locked promptly at that time.  Please arrive with a Mask and maintain your distance as we set up!  Dress Warm.

This is a fundraiser for Friend’s kitchen located at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rocky Point that feeds the hungry in our area.  The suggested donation is $15 cash.  If you can’t attend and would like to contribute, please feel free to venmo Amy-Perri or send a check.

Many Blessings for the upcoming Equinox.  The winds of change are upon us.

Namaste

Holding the Balance-Ode to the Autumn Equinox

Our lives hold grief and balm in equal measure, light, darkness are two ends of the same stick.  How do we hold all this life, all these dualities of sadness and joy, receiving and letting go, failures and successes, dreams and regrets, doing and not doing? The Tao Te Ching tells us that when we become empty we receive all that we have been grasping for.  This emptying and filling is as natural as the turn of the seasons.  To learn to let go with the grace of a tree in fall, to go within to shine the light where it has remained dark.  To share our burdens and our joys together as we walk this life full of transitions.  As we empty and prepare for what is to come,  planting seeds of intention; we find gratitude as we give rise to what is germinating deep inside; we honor the balance of light and dark.
