Yoga this Week – August 30, 2015

Mastery of yoga is really measured by how it influences our day-to-day living,
how it enhances our relationships,
how it promotes clarity and peace of mind.

Namaste Dear Yoga Students,

Hope you have been enjoying the energy of the amazing maha (great) moon these past few nights and allowing its abundance and light to illuminate your heart and mind. The intent for our yoga shouldn’t be all about the actual practice of breathing or posturing,  but more importantly,  how is effecting us  when we leave the yoga room.  It is about being with things as they are, breathing into sensation and staying steady, even when the going gets rough.  Yoga and meditation are not meant to banish negative feelings; jealousy, anger, regret and sadness will always arise as long as you live.  Our practices are meant for us to notice the sensation, the feeling, the impulse and explore it as if we were exploring our breath or a posture and observe how it passes, changes, moves on.  Yoga deepens our experience of being human; in all our vulnerability under all circumstances.  We explore, we learn and we let go and it is in the letting go that we discover the clarity and peace of mind within  the heart of yoga.

Yoga this Week – August 24, 2015

“Forget what others think of you, forget the future goal of achievement; arrive instead in this body/mind, attending to this present moment. This is the whole of practice.”.
                                          Sandy Boucher
Greetings Dear Yoga Students,

How often do we perform tasks, try to achieve or be something special in order to receive praise, boost our ego or stand out among our people?  We must remember that the intention of showing up, doing our best and allowing spirit to work through us is all we need to do. Being humble is not a sign of weakness, it is really a sign of great strength, stability and courage. Humility is to except the divine plan for your life, which is simply to open up to your unique gifts and use them to enrich those who cross your path in your unique situations.
Seek not to be commended in a worldly way but try to find that beautiful flow of muditha.  Muditha is achieved by doing what you love to do in your unique humble way  and in the doing you naturally spread peace, love and joy to others creating an energy that flows right back to you and ultimately becomes reward enough.  Feeling good by doing good in the present moment.  Forget what others think, focus instead on arriving where you are in the flow of your life.    This is your work, this is the whole purpose of practice:  to arrive, simply to arrive here and now….

Yoga this Week – August 3, 2015

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.

Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

Lao Tzu

om on beach

Greetings dearest yoga students,

We are in the midst of changes, some that are natural like aging and children growing up.  Others are spontaneous like suddenly losing your job or winning the lottery.  We all feel anchored in what is familiar to us and are comforted in what we can count on, like an old favorite receipe or comfy chair.  However, whether we want change or not, it comes.  Sometimes slowly and sometimes like a tidal wave sweeping us off our feet.  The best we can do is “let reality be reality” and join in with the flow.  Allow yourself time to grieve the past if you need to but with all the compassion you can muster up, don’t resist change or try to control it. Allow the energy of acceptance to flow towards gratitude for all you are able to experience.  Like a beautiful flowing river, allow your life to flow and ebb and flow, using your precious energy to be a part of it all.
