Greetings dear yoga students,
“She began to realize that identifying her practice with things that could be lost [advanced postures or deep states of meditation], would always leave her susceptible to fear anything that could be taken away through sickness, aging or life circumstances, was not a very wise thing to stand on. It was then that she realized the only security lay in using her yoga practice to tether her awareness to the part of herself that was and is eternal. ” Donna Farhi

Avidya – Spiritual Ignorance
Asmita – Ego – Persona -False Self
Raga – Attachment to Pleasure
Dvesa – Aversion to Pain
Adhinivhesa – Fear of Death/Loss
These Kleshas or misperceptions are basically the core confusion of what is permanent with what is impermanent and the suffering we cause ourselves when we try to hold on to these impermanent things. We all have fear of losing things we hold dear. It may be loved ones, our jobs, our health, our strength, our physical appearance or the myriad of ego driven personas we believe ourselves to be. The yoga sutras tell us that if we are aware of these Kleshas at the root, and Do not allow them to take hold in our psyches, we can release their power. Finding rest within the eternal part of ourselves illuminates the truth that uncertainty is a core part of our existence. This understanding is the key that gives us the courage to see through false promises and lack of control so we can ultimately let go to live with freedom, peace and joy!

Practice and detachment are the means to still the movements of consciousness. BKS Iyengar

Greetings dearest yoga students,
Adhyasa and Vairagya are two of the most important pillars to our practice. They are known as two wings of the freedom bird and also can be considered the HA (Active) & THA (Receptive) sides of our Hatha Yoga Practices. Abhyasa (Practice): Perservering in your practice. Staying with it even when obstacles arise.. Committing to staying with your spiritual practices over a long period of time is the only way to experience transformation. Vairagya (Detachment) : Learning to systematically let go your attachments to impermanent things. To be content with the process and not the reward. It is duly defined as being non-attached to material gains and to focus your awareness on the spiritual, lasting goals you sincerely value in your life.

Please note there is no Friday class this week

Greetings dear yoga students,
Hoping this email finds you enjoying a peaceful Memorial Day Holiday. One of the best ways to honor those that have lost their precious lives in service, and paid the ultimate cost, is to allow service to be at the center of our lives; in our work, families and communities. In this way, our lives will have true meaning and our dharma (one’s righteous duty or virtuous path) will surely be fulfilled.
Hanuman – The Monkey God
Hanuman is known as a powerful example of true devotion and service. He is worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, fierce perseverance and devotion. In the epic tale (found in the Ramayana) he overcomes ordeals, obstacles and fear enabling him to perform supernatural feats in order to save his master, Rama’s wife, Sita; all in the honor of service.
Become aware of where or who you are meant to serve in this lifetime, connect to your dharma. Life is fleeting, our greatest accomplishments are those of the heart , so put your energy into serving your fellow human being and although it may not be dramatic, rest assured it is true heroism in its purist form
Please note: Meditation Mondays resume on June 21st. Chair Yoga resumes next Monday
