“What’s Done is Done”

Shakespeare

Happy New Year Dearest Yoga Students,

Do not allow yourself to get stuck in the past.  What has happened is already gone.  Like the wake of a boat, it is behind you and does not have to define or determine the direction you will take.  Let go and allow what has happened to shape your future on its own.  Everything that has happened has led you to this moment.    You cannot change the past, you can look and learn but in the end you must let go and set your sights on the future.  Although the future is there wide open for anyone to change, we have a tendency to hang on to the unfulfilled wish to change the past and live with the mantra, “If only”… this simply is wasted energy.  What’s done is done…. direct your energy to the future: meditate in the present,  make plans, set intentions, transform your intentions into actions and let go of anything holding you back from creating the life you were meant to live….YOU are the one you’ve been waiting for!

“In this lovely season when the dance of surrender is obvious, we find large spaces left where something beautiful once lived. As one by one the leaves let go, a precious emptiness appears in the trees.  The naked beauty of the branches can be seen; the birds’ abandoned nests become visible.  The new spaces of emptiness reveal mountain ridges.  At night if you stand beneath a tree and gaze upward, stars now peer through the branches.  This is an important autumn lesson—when certain things fall away, there are other things that can be seen more clearly.  The same truth can be celebrated in our personal lives”

Excerpt from “The Circle of Life” by Joyce Rupp & Macrina Wiederkehr

circle_of_life_by_lionsroar787-d6p0cmu

With the grace of a tree letting go of her leaves with all her majesty and beauty, we learn to let go, making peace with the transitions in our lives. We face the stark reality that nothing lasts forever.  Things ebb and flow, autumn teaches us to honor what is dying, changing and urges us to embrace the fact that everything is always moving and flowing into something new, even if we are standing still.  Chanting one of my favorite mantras yesterday with a group of open, like-minded people, (sa ta na ma – wha hey guru) reminded me to breathe and embrace these inevitable changes.   The circle of life, death, rebirth and infinity tells us that all endings eventually become beginnings and that the walk through the hallway from a door that has closed behind us maybe dark, maybe challenging, but always leads to yet another opening, another awakening or a new perspective.  Go outside and enjoy the spaces in the trees where now the light comes in.  Feel the sun on your face as you chant:  SA TA NA MA – WHA HEY GURU and allow your life to flow.

Never give up. No matter what is going on. Never give up.

Be compassionate. Not just with your friends but with everyone. Be compassionate.

And I say again, Never give up. No matter what is going on around you. Never give up. Never give up.

-The Dalai Lama

Sometimes we feel as if we can’t go on. The mountain is too big, the task too daunting, the yoga pose too difficult, the situation too unmanageable.   It is always helpful to remember that even the most incredible tasks begin  by taking the next or first step, however small or insignificant that step may seem, it is a step forward non the less. Even if it means stepping back, collecting your thoughts, formulating a plan or just taking repose.  Keeping our minds on the action we need to take and letting the result rest in the hands of the universe, allows us to be in the present moment, even in difficult times.   You are enough, you have everything you need to move forward.  All you have to do is believe in yourself, let go of excuses and just begin.

quote-print-on-canvas_14955-1

Good Morning Dear Yoga Students,

Abundance is  always within in us.  Be still for a moment and just listen;  the universe is awakening, see if you can tune in and feel all of that energy.  In a culture of doing, succeeding, acquiring we sometimes forget that all we need to do is tune in to our inner landscape.   Abundance is not necessarily what we have or what we achieve but a feeling of deep satisfaction and meaning in the everyday moments.  Notice when you measure your “abundance” from your ego self; based on what others are doing, what you have or what you do.  Instead, look inside and tune in to your higher nature where “abundance” is based on how you fulfill your dharma or inner calling, in other words, what is coming from you.  Your dharma, or life’s purpose is how you use  your unique talents, ideas, visions or intentions to serve others with an effortless passion, generosity and joy.  Abundance is not something we acquire.  It is something we tune into.  When you tap into this inner abundance you will know it, and others will know it because it will naturally become a flowing stream pouring into everything you  touch.

“Yoga is the practice of observing clearly, listening acutely and skillfully responding to the moment with all the compassion we can muster”

Donna Farhi

  2015-07-21 02.59.10

Greetings dear yoga students,

Thank you for your continued dedication to your practice for it is you that will make this world a better place.  By practicing the art of observing, listening and responding skillfully,  you not only bring health and right action to those around you,  but you also become a wonderful example of how a person can move through the world with integrity, kindness and love.  A beautiful student remarked to me that being in class felt like a “homecoming” to her.  Yoga is a homecoming; a homecoming and a connection to your body, your mind. your community and your true nature which has an amazing wellspring of intelligence, joy and compassion waiting just below the surface to shine!!

Yoga this Week – May 16, 2015 – Wednesday Night Class Switched to Thursday Night this Week!!

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Have faith in your practice and the ability of your yoga to calm, nurture, enliven and release.  When we move our panic energy our practice through breath work, postures, chanting, and/or meditation we effect not only our physical bodies, but our emotional bodies as well.  Moving prana (life force energy) within ourselves allows us to be more open, more willing, more free to connect to that universal prana that is available for the taking and connects us to all beings everywhere.  In essence, it allows us to show up for ourselves and for others in our life.  Trust your yoga to move through you, all you have to do is show up and be present.  Your Yoga mat will catch you if you fall.

Rest yoga yin yang

In this special event,  restorative yoga, reiki energy healing and acupuncture are integrated to create an  indulgent experience designed to restore your balance, wellbeing and facilitate  a deep sense of calm in mind, body and spirit.

If you have never experienced acupuncture before, this would be a  wonderful, gentle introduction.  The  acupuncture points were specifically  chosen for  their universal healing properties including supporting the immune system, balancing energy  and creating a overall sense of relief.

Restorative yoga postures are supported by blankets, pillows, straps and bolsters to relieve tension, stress and open energy in the body.

Reiki Healing is a non-invasive channeling of universal healing energy with the intention of loving kindness  sent to the receiver.  The scent of essential oils allow your body and mind to relax even deeper by facilitating a calming effect.

Yoga This Week – March 1, 2015

“When experiencing this absolute true knowledge,
all previous samskaras (patterns) are left behind and new ones are prevented from sprouting”
Yoga Sutra I.50
 5987d-goddes-01

Hari Om dear yoga students,
The Sanskrit word, samskara, translates as a subconscious impression.  Samskaras are deep seeded patterns that our mind continues to play over and over again.  It is the thoughts, impressions and memories that we have acquired over our lifetimes that create conditioned responses and eventually become our habits. When we feel stuck in our lives or continue to approach situations the same way over and over again, hoping for different results, it is often due to our samskaras.   Obsessions and compulsions have their root in the samskara of past conditions, but they can also produce positive tendencies, like committing to meditate or practice yoga everyday.

As we step on our mat, do our pranayama or sit on our meditation cushion, we face ourselves from the inside.  The stillness within the movement of thoughts breaths or postures help to create space in between our impulses and actions.   The creative art of detaching from our negative patterns allows us to make those much needed changes in our lives.  However, more importantly it allows us to look at our emotional patterns more like the weather around us; we are in the weather but we are not the weather.    The weather changes but we remain the same.  This compassionate awareness reminds us of an even more important point:  That we all feel the same feelings.  The patterns you struggle with are , most likely, the same as others in your life. Ultimately, becoming aware of your own samskaras expands your circle of compassion so you can reach out to others from a place of knowing.  Yoga is all about clearing ourselves so we can go out and help others.  What we heal in ourselves, we heal in the world.

“The goal is not to tie ourselves in knots …

we’re already tied in knots.
The aim is to untie the knots in our hearts.
The aim is to unite with the ultimate, loving, and peaceful power in the universe.”

– Max Strom

mother earth globe

Take a breath.  A long, relaxed inhale and hold that fullness, that tightness, those knots for a moment…..and when you are ready, open up your channels and exhale long and deep with a big sigh.   Let go of your worries of the future and regrets of the  past and Be present to all this moment holds.  Notice in detail the vibrant colors and shine, the movement of the wind, the sounds, smells and feelings that are all held in existence around and inside you.  Be the seer, the witness of this miraculous day that we are here and alive.  Untie  the knots that bind your heart and unite with the amazing power of the universe.

In the words of Eckhart Tolle, “Anytime we step into the present moment, we are able to experience the sacredness of life“.

Saturday Morning, March 7th at 8:45  to 10:30am Workshop with Kim Williams (Kishori)

Prana, Teja and Ojas: Vital Essences of Transformation

Dharma Talk, Pranyama & Asana Class

Yoga is an inner alchemical process through which we can develop higher consciousness. We each have the capacity within us to go beyond ordinary human awareness to reach a state of Self-realization.   Prana, Tejas, and Ojas  support health, creativity and well-being. They provide the foundation for deeper yogic and meditational practices.   We will especially focus on how to cultivate Ojas as that is the foundation on which our yoga practice rests. It is responsible for our immunity and on a deeper level, our sense of well-being or our bliss body. Ojas is directly linked with the essence of divine love within and can be cultivated through bhakti yoga and a lifestyle full of wholesome pleasures.
