The goal is not to tie ourselves in knots …
we’re already tied in knots.
The aim is to untie the knots in our hearts.
The aim is to unite with the ultimate, loving, and peaceful power in the universe.”

**No Monday Night Class this week – Make sure you scroll down for some wonderful offerings this month!**
“Again and again ~ Return like Mountain ~ Release like Ocean ~ Relax like Sky ~And Rest ~ Rest in the Heart of Pure Awareness” Living Buddha
Greetings dear yoga students,
This quote reminds me that there is a need for us to keep coming back again and again to rest in our true selves. However, to balance our energies we must seek different modalities to meet our ever changing needs; sometimes we need to relax like the sky, be still like a mountain or release the past like the ocean. Tune in to exactly what you may be needing today. Draw upon the power of nature to nurture you and give you what you need. As the season transitions to shorter days and longer nights, you may feel your energy, mood and mind shifting so try and adjust your daily round to help you be true to yourself. In this way we begin to live in the natural rhythms of nature, returning again to rest in the awareness of the heart and what truly matters in your life.

So Much Happiness
It is difficult to know what to do with so much happiness.
With sadness there is something to rub against,
A wound to tend with lotion and cloth.
When the world falls in around you, you have pieces to pick up,
Something to hold in your hands, like ticket stubs or change. But happiness floats.
It doesn’t need you to hold it down.
It doesn’t need anything.
Happiness lands on the roof of the next house, singing,
And disappears when it wants to.
You are happy either way.
Even the fact that you once lived in a peaceful tree house
And now live over a quarry of noise and dust
Cannot make you unhappy.
Everything has a life of its own,
It too could wake up filled with possibilities
Of coffee cake and ripe peaches,
And love even the floor which needs to be swept,
The soiled linens and scratched records….Since there is no place large enough
To contain so much happiness,
You shrug, you raise your hands, and it flows out of you
Into everything you touch. You are not responsible.
You take no credit, as the night sky takes no credit
For the moon, but continues to hold it, and to share it,
And in that way, be known.

One of yoga’s most beautiful niyamas (ethical practices to cultivate) is Santosha or Contentment. With Santosha, there is less doing and more a sitting with, a being present for, a quiet contemplation to look around and be content in the moment, in this very moment. Today notice how many times you might sabotage your contentment. Sometimes we worry that things are too good, that it won’t last. Sometimes we think we should do more, be more or get more. Be aware of when you feel content today and allow yourself the joy and peace that cultivating santosha brings, however fleeting or far between,

Yoga this Week – September 21, 2014
“The yogi feels that the collection or hoarding of things implies a lack of faith in God and in himself to provide for the future….By the observance of aparigraha, the yogi makes his life as simple as possible and trains his mind not to feel the loss or the lack of anything. Then everything he really needs will come to him by itself at the proper time.”

Hari Om Dear Yoga Students,
As this Fall draws us inward I wish for your eyes to see all the abundance that you already possess right now in this moment in this time in your life. One beautiful morning this past week I walked down to the shore, a little less than a mile from my house and was embraced by the serene beauty all around me. It caused me to stop and I experienced a moment that seemed to have transformed into one of those magical moments suspended in time. I paused, connected to my breath, did some simple yoga postures and sat on a piece of wood to silently sit in meditation.. As the rhythmic sound of the waves made their way into my mind and the gentle warm breeze caressed my skin, I felt so completely connected to all that was around me. The feeling of abundance and gratitude seemed to encapsulate my entire being. If we take even a moment to connect with all that is precious and dear to us in our lives right now, we allow the divine light to shine into our hearts. A moment like this can change your entire day from one that is ordinary to one that is full of miracles and we seem to lack nothing.

Yoga this Week – June 29, 2014
Greetings dearest yoga students,
I love summer. I love diving in, breathing the air, feeling the warm shining sun on my face. I love embracing the cool breeze and the tingaling feeling of salt on my skin hours after a dip in the sea. I love the energy in myself and I can feel it in those around me. Today’s kayaking adventure included all of these things and more. I am so very blessed to do the work that I love in this lifetime. To be around such wonderful open-minded people embracing natures beauty not only sharing an adventurous journey across the water, but an inspiring yoga class on an island while collectively raising funds for our local soup kitchen was truly a gift. The water, sun, air, sky, birds, sand were all part of our practice. When a student came up to me and said “Amy, you have truly found your dharma, this is your life’s work”, it filled me with such joy and awe. Work? I smiled and laughed to myself because I really never feel like any of these classes, events, sangha’s, are work!! (Although I must say, I will sleep deep tonight!) Thank you all for your continued dedication to your yoga practice and to this community that continues to grow. Thank you all for allowing me to live my dharma by brining this ancient practice of yoga in all its forms to new and continuing students. And thank you for being the open, receptive, loving and supportive people that yogi’s are known to be. Sat Nam, A deep, loving bow to you all!!

Yoga this Week – June 22, 2014
“Yoga helps us to remember again and again what we have forgotten…
that our bodies, our minds and our lives are pliable, changeable and capable of creating any experience we choose to create.”
If you are feeling stuck, stagnant or blocked at this time, please try and remember that even in the “down” times, we are still moving forward. It is imperative, however, that during dormancy we try and trust that the abundance of the universe is on its way; we are most likely being prepared for something much greater, much more expansive than our limited minds can understand. Even when we are not sure of our next step, all we need do is stumble forward in faith, in perseverance and in the knowing that at any given moment we have the opportunity to make the necessary changes in our lives toward health, well being and happiness. Allow your yoga practice to be a beautiful reminder of just how moldable our bodies, minds and spirits can become one compassionate, patient, focused moment at a time.
