Yoga this Week – August 4, 2013

     warrior pose

Only as a spiritual warrior can one withstand the path of knowledge. A warrior cannot complain or regret anything. His life is an endless challenge and challenges cannot possibly be good or bad. Challenges are simply challenges. The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge, while an ordinary man takes everythingas a blessing or a curse. – Don Juan

Greetings to all my peaceful warriors who week after week face the ultimate challenge of coming face to face with their bodies, minds and spirits on their yoga mats.

Breathe in the beautiful energy of summer and be present to all the love that surrounds you.

Yoga this Week – July 28, 2013

Birds are a miracle because they prove to us there is a finer, simpler state of being which we may strive to attain.                                                           Doug Coupland
 Good Morning dearest yoga students,
Step outside your door and take in all the amazing abundance of the natural world.  We can learn so much from natures rhythms as we allow her to nurture, sooth and remind us we are all part of the same whole.  I get a deep sense of comfort as I watch the birds fly back and forth from tree to tree.   They have the freedom and joy many of us long for.   The many varieties, sizes and colors interact and co-exist in harmony with each other and the world around them, adjusting from season to season with the ability to simply sing after a storm.   Take time to become aware of how the birds, the trees, the water, the wind are orchestrating a beautiful symphony all around you.  Allow yourself to soar into the day, whatever your plans.  Try to look up often, walk barefoot to experience the earth,  and enjoy the breeze as it caresses your skin.   Remind yourself you are as free as the birds in the air to sing your unique song in order to  make the world a better place.
“A bird does not sing because it has the answer.  It sings because it has a song.”

Rest yoga yin yang

In this special event,  restorative yoga, reiki energy healing and acupuncture are integrated to create an  indulgent experience designed to restore your balance, wellbeing and facilitate  a deep sense of calm in mind, body and spirit.

If you have never experienced acupuncture before, this would be a  wonderful, gentle introduction.  The  acupuncture points were specifically  chosen for  their universal healing properties including supporting the immune system, balancing energy  and creating a overall sense of relief.

Restorative yoga postures are supported by blankets, pillows, straps and bolsters to relieve tension, stress and open energy in the body.

Reiki Healing is a non-invasive channeling of universal healing energy with the intention of loving kindness  sent to the receiver.

Yoga this Week – July 28, 2013

Hatha Yoga
Ha-Sun
Tha-Moon
Yoga-To unite
Hatha Yoga is the practice of uniting our mind, body and spirit.  It is a practice that also balances our energies.  Our Masculine (Paternal), Ha, energy is one of heat, movement and effort.  Our Feminine (Maternal), Tha, energy is one of cooling, quiet compassion and receptivity.  In a recent discussion sparked by a dharma talk led by Wade Imre Morresette, it was said that our society has become accustomed to leading with the Ha energy of the masculine.  In other words, we are focused on the doing, the accomplishing, the end result without considering the Tha energy that deals with love, kindness and a concern for all involved.
Our Yoga practice connects us to both these energies, however, our intention before, during and after class should be one of receptivity.   As we move through our physical practice we create heat and are immersed in the “doing” of our poses.  As we come into stillness, we become quiet, receptive and open to the teachings within and without.   Having a balance between these two energies enables us to skillfully maneuver through our lives and act in the most productive way for all involved.
Think about it for a moment,  how would moving into the receptive energy of the moon, allowing our intention to rest on loving kindness and unconditional love, change the way we “do” things?   From cleaning our home, to traveling our roadways, doing our jobs, to speaking to a loved one, our “Ha” energy will allow all we do to shine forth with love, compassion, forgiveness and a sense of connection to all who will be affected by our actions.
