Harvest Moon Beach Yoga Fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey

Harvest Moon Beach Yoga Fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

Wednesday, September 6th at 745pm

Broadway Beach Rocky Point

Come join us to do yoga on the beach under the full Harvest Moon. We will have live drumming during class and conclude with a drum circle and meditation. Feel free to bring drums and/or any percussion instrument you like. The full moon in September, just before the Fall Equinox, holds powerful energy, luminous colors and very bright light. Its name is the Harvest moon because it enabled farmers to pick their abundant crop late into the night. It is both a time of reflection and gratitude for what the summer has brought to us; both in material wealth and spiritual lessons.

My good friend, Russ Green,  directed my attention to this amazing organization comprised mainly of military veterans who work with EMS and other emergency response teams in the trenches of disaster areas. All proceeds from the class are going to Team Rubicon.    These are experienced service people that are literally in the trenches assisting and providing aid to the relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. Lets take our Yoga off our mats and direct our intentions to raising much needed relief to those in need. We are one world!! If you cannot make it to the class you can either send (or give) your donation to me or donate directly at their website at www.teamrubiconusa.org

Lokha Samasta Sukino Bhavantu:  May all beings be happy, peaceful and free and may OUR THOUGHTS, WORDS AND ACTIONS CONTRIBUTE to the well being and freedom for all!!  Karma Yoga is the Yoga of Service!

Hope to celebrate this Harvest moon with you!! Join us. Contact me with any questions. 6318390644. You must arrive on time to get a parking pass to park in the Broadway beach parking lot. $15 per person, all proceeds to go to the Relief Efforts for Hurricane Harvey.

Yoga this Week – May 26, 2014 – Happy Memorial Day!

True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic.

It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost,

but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you enjoying a peaceful Memorial Day Holiday as we honor those that have fought in service to our country. If we allow service to be at the center of our lives; in our work, families and communities, our lives will have true meaning and our dharma (one’s righteous duty or virtuous path) will surely be fulfilled.

hanuman

Hanuman – The Monkey God

Hanuman is known as a powerful example of true devotion and service.  He is worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, fierce perseverance and devotion.  In the epic tale of the Ramayana he overcomes ordeals, obstacles and fear enabling him to perform supernatural feats  in order to save his master, Rama’s wife, Sita; all in the honor of service.

Become aware of where or who you are meant to serve in this lifetime, connect to your dharma.  Life is fleeting, our greatest accomplishments are those of the heart  , so put your energy into serving your fellow human being and although it may not be dramatic, rest assured it is true heroism in its purist form

Yoga this Week – February 4, 2012

Greetings dearest yoga students,

This week brings us to our final yama in the first limb of yoga’s eight limb path.

Aparigraha
greedlessness, non-attachment

“The yogi feels that the collection or hoarding of things implies a lack of faith in God and in himself to provide for the future….By the observance of aparigraha, the yogi makes his life as simple as possible and trains his mind not to feel the loss or the lack of anything. Then everything he really needs will come to him by itself at the proper time.”

                                                                BKS Iyengar

It is fitting that the last yama is about letting go.  As we have seen with all the yamas, cultivating faith in our divine intelligence is a foundational requirement if we are to walk on our true, right path.  Working with aparigraha requires a letting go and a giving heart.  It is releasing the need to come from a place of lack and acknowledge that there is always enough.  Think about it…don’t we always seem to get what we need although we may not always get what we desire.  Learning to live from an attitude of abundance allows you to give freely and walk your path with serentity.  Greed is based on fear and fear leads us to cling to impermanant things (money, titles, people, things..).  Clinging will not lengthen your life, bring lasting happiness or keep you safe.

Attachment, hoarding and greed leads to making decisions that are based on fear.  Letting go of fear and cultivating faith empowers us to let go of  our competitive human nature and dive deeper into the interconnectness of all things which allows us to see that you and I are not separate.  The next time you notice yourself acting from a place of fear based greed, envy or unhealthy grasping, try repeating the mantra silently or quietly out loud:  “There is always enough, my higher power will always provide exactly what is needed and I am exactly where I need to be”. and see if your perception shifts to one of giving, acceptance and effortless love.

Yoga this Week August 21, 2011

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Hope you are enjoying this summer day and this email finds you well.

“To have a sacred place…is an absolute necessity for anybody today.  You must have a room (or corner of a room) …, where you can simply bring forth what you are and what you might be.  This is a place of creative incubation.  At first you may find that nothing happens there, but if you have a sacred place and use it, something (wonderful) eventually will happen”
                                          Joseph Campbell

Let’s face it, we could all use a week long retreat away from all of our demands and responsibilities but that is not always possible.  You can, however, learn to create that sacred space and retreat to it whenever you feel inclined.  Also carving out a certain amount of time at a specific time of day will give you the structure and discipline to find that quiet, alone time we all crave.  Whether it be 10 minutes sitting in quiet contemplation or an hour of gentle stretching, try creating a space of your own somewhere in your home.  Even if it is just a corner where you place a candle, journal or some other meaningful reminders.  Once you take the time to make this simple sacred space, you will soon wonder how you ever did without it.

Have a Happy Father’s Day!!

Good Morning Dearest Yoga Students,

Hope this morning fills your heart as you awake to yet another amazing day.    Whatever circumstances surround you today, allow gratitude to replace any judgment you may have surrounding either your own fathering or the fathers in your life.  We are all walking this path together and the struggles of another are no different then your own; their decisions are no easier made.  Be comforted in knowing we are all doing the best we can at any given moment.  Offer your unconditional love whenever you can and connect to the energy of what being and/or having a father means in your life.  Even if your own father is not currently pyhsically in your life, know that we all have access to that divine, universal fatherly energy that guides, protects, nutures and sometimes carries us throughout our days.
