Yoga this Week – June 15, 2014

cindi lee

Every time we come into the present moment we unlock our ideas about what our life should look like.  Yoga helps us realize the unlimited potential that is inherent in every moment..  It shapes the way we feel about ourselves, our world and our dreams.  When we experience the radiance of our bodies, the power of our breath and the qualities of a calm mind, a long hidden truth comes floating to the service; that we are more than the sometimes limited labels we place on ourselves.  We remember again what we have forgotten, that we are more than our bodies, more than our thoughts, more than even this limited time we are encapsulated in called our life.  When we realize this truth again and again, we can give ourselves permission to dream dreams, discover new passions and then cultivate the trust and strength to materialize our desires.  So allow your yoga to be more than achieving some outward expression of physical form, allow YOUR yoga to unlock the inner flexibility of your minds so your life can soar beyond your wildest dreams.

Yoga this Week – June 8, 2013

 Yoga this Week - February 25, 2012

“Your life is a sacred journey.  It is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way.  You re on the path…exactly where you are meant to be right now …And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love”

Hoping this email finds you all well, enjoying this sacred journey we call our lives.  Returning home from my yoga and hiking retreat this weekend, I am reminded of the great power in being still, being challenged, being opened and being free.  Stepping out of our comfort zone, whether it is to sit on a meditation cushion, step on to our yoga mats, climb a mountain or open ourselves up to another, helps to expand our “vision of what is possible” in our lives.  Life itself is the greatest journey we will ever take.  It is an adventure into the unknown forest of emotions, into the complexity of our minds, the amazing resilience of our bodies, the flowing energy of relationships and most importantly, an adventure into that deep inner wellspring of compassion and love  from which all magnificent tales of triumph are born.

Yoga This Week – June 1, 2013 – No Friday Class this Week

forward fold

“All Spiritual Journeys have a destination of which the traveler is unaware. Most of us who start out on the yoga mat do not realize that, if we dedicate ourselves to practice, it is only a matter of time until the mat becomes an altar”

Stephen Cope

Greetings dear yoga students,

The practice of Bhakti Yoga is the yoga of devotion. Every pose we take, every breath we inhale, every intention and action is practiced as devotion to our divine source. The deeper we penetrate our physical world through our asana practice, we realize the divine lives in all things physical and that the physical lives in all things spiritual and we tap into the energy of yoga (connections). When we tap into the energy of yoga or connection of mind, body and spirit we can experience, what Bhakti yogis aim for; a “direct, intense, personal relationship with the divine or simply with life itself”.

Practicing yoga this morning in the middle of the woods with the birds, trees and sun, it did not take long for my yoga mat to become an alter. Seemingly magically, my physical practice transformed into an experience of being deeply connected to everything around me and inside of me, even the sound of children playing in the distance became part of the musical symphony that was playing inside and around me. I was completely immersed in Bhakti Yoga, devoting my practice to my divine source.  This was also the same way I felt Friday night chanting mantras behind a yoga class, immersed in a “personal relationship with life itself”.

There are countless ways to practice Bhakti yoga. Chanting spiritual mantras, praying with beads, gardening in the earth’s soil, relishing the light in a loved ones eyes, playing with a child or finding compassion in your heart when it is needed most are all postures we can take to express our devotion for life itself.   We can also come to our formal yoga practice with dedication and reverence for this ancient science which enables us to transform our own yoga mat into a sacred space where we come to be in the presence of the divine that is both inside, outside and in all things.

Yoga this Week – May 26, 2014 – Happy Memorial Day!

True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic.

It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost,

but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you enjoying a peaceful Memorial Day Holiday as we honor those that have fought in service to our country. If we allow service to be at the center of our lives; in our work, families and communities, our lives will have true meaning and our dharma (one’s righteous duty or virtuous path) will surely be fulfilled.

hanuman

Hanuman – The Monkey God

Hanuman is known as a powerful example of true devotion and service.  He is worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, fierce perseverance and devotion.  In the epic tale of the Ramayana he overcomes ordeals, obstacles and fear enabling him to perform supernatural feats  in order to save his master, Rama’s wife, Sita; all in the honor of service.

Become aware of where or who you are meant to serve in this lifetime, connect to your dharma.  Life is fleeting, our greatest accomplishments are those of the heart  , so put your energy into serving your fellow human being and although it may not be dramatic, rest assured it is true heroism in its purist form

“What we are trying to do in yoga is to create a union, and so to deepen a yoga pose is to actually increase the union of the pose, not necessarily put your leg around your head.”

Rodney Yee

Each time we come to our mats, we have a chance to explore interconnectedness. We begin with our breath and move into our bodies, but it doesn’t stop there. As we create union with a pose, we adjust, consider, explore, become present and breathe into the experience. We soften into the edges of the pose and watch them dissolve as we flow moment to moment. Much the same way we can choose to unite and connect with the situations and interactions in our life. We can choose to lean in, yield and be present, to connect and unite with everything inside and around us with curiosity instead of expectations. As you move into this day, feel into the energy around you. Connect with the elements of nature. Let the sun, earth and sky serenade you as you flow guided by that wonderful teacher that resides within you. Rather than judge your day by how much you accomplish, see or do, choose to unite, connect and deepen into the mystery that is your life.

**Hari Om Tat Sat – Evening Class & Yoga Hike **

Greetings on this beautiful day!

Reminder that the 730pm Class is on Thursday evening this week and next week, after that Wednesday evening will return again!

Regarding the Yoga Hike – The weather is calling for possible showers so check your email or website before heading out.  The rain date for our hike will be Saturday, May 31st, just in case.

hari om tat sat rock

This is a beautiful chant that is an ancient verse from the Vedas, one of the original yogic texts that we have been chanting in class this week.

Hari Om Tat Sat:   thus is not uttered casually, but is said when the speaker is in that ineffable state of Grace where :  You, Me, everything, everybody, is permeated with a Divine, Spiritual essence.  This chant honors that essence in the material and spiritual realms.  It declares and acknowledges that Spirit infuses everything.

Shanti

Enjoy the day and choose to see Spirit infused in everything!!

Jai Ma, Victory to the divine mother!

I offer you a poem that I wrote when I first became a mother, 18 years ago.  I hope you enjoy it.

“You Teach Me”

As I teach you to grow, you also teach me

As we go through each day, we learn how to be

Your freestyle way of going through life

Has taught me not to hurry or strife

You always seem to want to play

Never worrying about the day

You trust in me like no one before

Although it seems I love you more

I am your “mommy”, a highly respected position

My best role so far, a lovely transition

From girl to woman, from wife to mom,

I’m learning, you teach me.  Life goes on….

“Your nature is absolute peace. You are not the mind. Silence your mind through concentration and meditation, and you will discover the peace of the Spirit
that you are, and have always been.” Remez Sasson
om on beach
As we learn to find the divine in our pyhsical practice of yoga;  in our bodies, minds and spirits, we may begin to discover the divine in the everyday moments as well.  When we become centered and aware that there is a profound spiritual presence surrounding us, a powerful energy force enabling us to delve deeper into our own life is released and the little things that used to bother us, begin to melt into the background.      We intuitively begin to realize that trivial things that used to take up so much space in our minds, are things we will never remember years from now and they are as transient as the wind.  Working with Tapas (self discipline)  and learning to burn through the blockages that keep us from our true essence on our mats enables us to transform our everyday life.  Begin to notice your everyday reaction to the little hindrences that sometimes crowd our days.  Practice not engaging but rising above and, perhaps, you may begin to notice that spitrual presence and powerful energy hiding behind every corner you turn empowering and blanketing you with calm, self-control and peace.
