“Grace is a wind that is always blowing.  If you really want freedom and unbounded happiness in this lifetime, set your sail now!  Learn how putting your trust in Yoga’s practical and verifiable science connects you to a wisdom that never disappoints.”

It brings me great joy to be in a position to bring yoga into each and every one of your lives.  The science of yoga provides an outlet for our creativity, a safe retreat from our hectic lives, peace of mind and strength and tone of body.  This “verifiable science”, when practiced diligently over time in all areas of our lives, has the ability to transform our very lives. Yogic ethics, physical postures, breath work and meditation grounds us, stabilizes us and most importantly frees us so we may be of service to those we come in contact with.

Greetings dearest yoga students,
Success can truly be defined by a life where our talents, and that which brings us joy, are used to serve others.  This is balance, this creates peace and joy and this is where we come alive.  Leading kirtan this morning to a classroom of young teens filled my heart with joy.  Thank you to Annalee, Jim & Dave!!.  To be able to do something I love in the service of others is something  I try to honor as true success.  Whatever your talents are, find someway to share them and your life will have meaning and your heart will be full.

Hari Om Dear Yoga Students,

Hope this email finds you experiencing freedom in the present moment.  When depression or anxiety takes the center stage in your life, check in and ask yourself; Am I pining over the past or fearful of the future?  Chances are you will discover the source of your suffering  is involved with the imagined past or the projected future.  We must realize that our memories are most times selective and our thoughts about the future are shear imagination.  The only moment in time that we truly can know is now.  Right now you can feel, see, taste and experience your life.  The point of power is always now, right under your feet and in your heart.  Connect and practice peace every day, all day by remembering time and again to return to the present moment where all is possible.

“Yoga is the practice of observing clearly, listening acutely and skillfully responding to the moment with all the compassion we can muster”

Donna Farhi

 2015-07-21 02.59.10

Greetings dear yoga students,

Thank you for your continued dedication to your practice for it is you that will make this world a better place.  By practicing the art of observing, listening and responding skillfully,  you not only bring health and right action to those around you,  but you also become a wonderful example of how a person can move through the world with integrity, kindness and love.  A beautiful student remarked to me that being in class felt like a “homecoming” to her.  Yoga is a homecoming; a homecoming to yourself and your true nature which has an amazing wellspring of intelligence, joy and compassion waiting just below the surface to shine!!

Happy Leap Day and a Special Happy Birthday to my Leap Year Hubby!!

“He [came to] realize that identifying his practice with things that could be lost [advanced postures & breath work, deep states of meditation],  would always leave him susceptible to fear anything that could be taken away through sickness aging or life circumstances was not a very wise thing to stand on.  It  was then that he realized that the only security lay in using his yoga practice to tether his awareness to the part of himself that was and is eternal.   It is in this tethering of awareness to the unchanging core of our being that true security can be gained….As our practice deepens and we gain confidence and courage,  we develop a growing appetite for this groundlessness and we start to yearn for a more liberated and open experience of ourselves and we become more willing to let go of old hand holds. We start to feel a resolute commitment to real freedom & we become vigilant about things that offer the trappings of freedom but fall short of delivering the goods”  Donna Farhi from Bringing Yoga to Life

images (18)

Greetings dearest yoga students,

The above excerpt from Donna Farhi’s book is, in essence, describing what Patanjali wrote about in the Yoga Sutra’s called Kleshas.  Kleshas are basically the core confusion of what is permanent with what is impermanent and the suffering we cause ourselves when we try to hold on to the impermanent things.  We all have fear of losing things we hold dear.  It may be loved ones, our jobs, our health, our strength, our physical appearance or the myriad of ego driven personas we believe ourselves to be. Finding rest within this “groundlessness” of living with the truth of uncertainty allows us to see through false promises,  let go and live with freedom, peace and joy!

“Shall I tell you what I find beautiful about you?  You are at your very best when things are worst”  Starman

download (1)

Utkatasana (chair pose)  exemplifies the amazing ability of the human spirit to rise up and find the strength, grace and power we didn’t even know we had.  We have all had experiences  where   the bottom seems to fall out from underneath our life; a devastating phone call comes or some unexpected turn of events sends life into a tailspin.   It is at precisely these times, when help seems to come out of nowhere; people organize themselves to help, families let go of their differences to work together for the common goal, friends come from all directions.  It is at our worst,  that we become our very best.

If you have a moment today, take chair pose for a few breaths.  Breathe into the grounding at your feet, feel how your heart lifts and your hands reach up toward the sky.  Embodying this powerful pose allows us to experience our own power and also the source of power around us that enables us to lift ourselves  up and bask in the light and love that is always there.  Thich Nhat Hahn says “No Mud, No Lotus” which means that we must go through the dark, the struggles, the sticky stuff to reveal our true beauty.   In the depths of the winter, dig deep and reach high.  Spring is surely on its way and  we await its coming with joy, strength and resolve.

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart. ~
Marcus Aelius Aurelius

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you fostering a sense of grateful anticipation for the day and week ahead. Acceptance of life circumstances does not mean to give in, give up or throw in the towel. Acceptance is looking at what fate has brought to your door, examining the facts with an open heart and clear mind and then from deep within gather the courage to do what you need or do – which in some instances is the courage to do absolutely nothing. Whenever we are at odds with something, feel “off-kilter” or are experiencing anxiety, it usually can be traced back to our inability to accept what is happening in the present moment. Acceptance enables us to enjoy the scenery of our lives the way it is, even if it is not what we expected. So dive in to the present moment of your life today and meditate on the areas that you meet with resistance; breathe a compassionate breath, bless your circumstances, love the people who join you on your journey with all your heart and find the peace and serenity that comes with true acceptance.

Greetings dear Yoga students,

Martin Luther King, Jr. describes Ishvara Pranidhana perfectly in the above quotation.  ; having Faith and surrendering to the process even when you don’t know where it will lead you.  The fact is we really never have a guarantee that our plans will work out.  I have experienced many times when fear led me to overthink, manipulate, and try to control every part of a situation,  only to wake up to the fact that all I had to do was relax, trust and be open to the unfolding, which many times was more wonderful than I could have ever imagined!  The yogic  niyama, Ishvara Pranidhana calls us to let go and trust that there is a divine plan working along side you.  Let go of results, trust the process and even when you don’t know where you are going, lift your foot and take that first step!

Yoga this Week – January 11, 2016 – No Friday Morning this Week

Greetings dear Yoga Students,

When you do your yoga practice,  do it for more than the obvious physical benefits.  Yoga gives us an opportunity to connect with that sacred self that lies beneath appearances, beyond belief systems and transcends even time.  Yoga ignites our curiosity and expands our capacity for growth to help create a more meaningful, healthy and vital sense of living, not just for ourselves, but for all we come in contact with.
