Yoga this Week – Regular Schedule Resumes – December 28, 2013

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.

Mother Theresa

Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students,

The end of the year is upon us.  It is a time of deep reflection for most.  A time to look back with compassion and illuminate  the path we have walked.  This time is a unique opportunity to reflect, accept and let go.  You have changed, you have been changed by the experiences you have traveled through and the obstacles you have been confronted with; you do not need to hold on for the past will always be part of who you are today.   The most important thing we can do is learn and let it go.  In order to live the life we are meant to live, we must make space by releasing the past.  If you find yourself holding on, bless whatever situation you are at odds with, trust that all of it was destined to happen and let yourself move forward, you will move forward non the less, so why not go with the flow of your life.  All we have is NOW…Let us begin

Stand still.
The trees ahead and the bushes beside you Are not lost.
Wherever you are is called Here,   And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes.  Listen.  It answers….   I have made this place around you.
If you leave it you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.   No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or bush does is lost on you,   You are surely lost.
Stand still.
The forest knows Where you are.
You must let it find you.

Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students,
Our Saturday morning Yoga Hike was a wonderful experience and I thank all who were able to attend.  Connecting to nature through our yoga practice and each other was all together uplifting, calming and joyful.  We live in such a beautiful, wonderous world, and it is right here in our own backyard. I think its safe to say we all had abundant  feelings of gratitude, appreciation and connectedness as we integrated breath and movement with the sights and sounds of the forest and beach.  The natural world has much to teach us, all we have to do is “Stand Still” and it will find us, nurture our spirits and uplift our hearts.  Bhoomi Mangalum (Blessings on The Earth).
Thanks also goes out to all of you who attended our ShaktiPath Kirtan at the NSPL Friday night.  Chanting has the ability to calm us, uplift our spirits and connect us to each other much the same way that nature nutures.  Gratitude for showing up and sharing your voices, love and enthusiasm with us!!
To be able to share what I love with so many wonderful souls is truly a blessing and whatever I am able to give, I receive back ten fold from all of you so I truly cherish each and every one of you for being part of our Sangha!!

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart. ~
                                               Marcus Aelius Aurelius

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you fostering a sense of grateful anticipation for the day and week ahead.  Acceptance of life circumstances does not mean to give in, give up or throw in the towel.  Acceptance is looking at what fate has brought to your door, examining the facts with an open heart and clear mind and then from deep within gather the courage to  do what you need or do – which in some instances is the courage to do absolutely nothing.  Whenever we are at odds with something, feel “off-kilter” or are experiencing anxiety, it usually can be traced back to our inability to accept what is happening in the present moment.  The moment we begin to trade our expectations in for acceptance, we experience a shift in perspective and sometimes, as if miraculously,   the limits begin to fade or change shape..  Acceptance enables us enjoy the senery of our lives the way it is, even if it is not what we expected.  So dive in to the present moment of your life today and meditate on the areas that you meet with resistance;  breathe a compassionate breath, bless your circumstances, love the people who join you on your journey with all your heart and find the peace and serenity that comes with true acceptance.

Yoga this Week – October 28, 2012

“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.”
Pema Chodren
Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students,
There’s nothing like a good hurricane scare to help us recognize our shared humanity.  Leaning in to our own darkness, fear, humanness is truly the only way to expand our compassion for others. Having the courage to stand in our own pain and darkness allows us to open up to the immense compassion we have stored in our hearts.  It is from this opening that we reach out in true compassion for another’s pain. What is amazing to me is that in that reaching out, in that extended hand, smile, hug or encouraging word we give to another, we find the very thing that lifts our own pain and suffering.  Choose today to offer any help in whatever way you can to your neighbor, friend or family member to not only help them but to lift youself up as well.
