Yoga this Week-April 19, 2020

Faith, Courage and Strength.  What better qualities to embrace right now as we stand at the door of mystery, uncertain of how things will be as days turn into weeks and weeks into months.  Let’s face it,  none of us have ever been here before so we are learning new ways of being.   Teaching virtually has been challenging and one of my greatest joys during this time.  Having some semblance of normalcy by heading down to the yoga room and teaching is basically helping to keep me sane.  I hope to see you this week.  If you have any questions about how to sign in, contact me and I will walk you through it.  Be well.   Embrace the Present and know I am sending love and hugs!

Yoga this Week – Regular Schedule Resumes – December 28, 2013

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.

Mother Theresa

Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students,

The end of the year is upon us.  It is a time of deep reflection for most.  A time to look back with compassion and illuminate  the path we have walked.  This time is a unique opportunity to reflect, accept and let go.  You have changed, you have been changed by the experiences you have traveled through and the obstacles you have been confronted with; you do not need to hold on for the past will always be part of who you are today.   The most important thing we can do is learn and let it go.  In order to live the life we are meant to live, we must make space by releasing the past.  If you find yourself holding on, bless whatever situation you are at odds with, trust that all of it was destined to happen and let yourself move forward, you will move forward non the less, so why not go with the flow of your life.  All we have is NOW…Let us begin

Yoga this Week – July 7, 2013

Yoga this Week - February 25, 2012

When you do yoga postures,
surrender to the moment,
be in the moment,
don`t worry about weather
you can touch your
toes or not,
just experience the process.

Then try to carry this attitude
into the rest of your day,
away from tension,
guilt and anxiety.

Experience is the door
to the here and now.

                    Amrit Kala

 Hari Om dearest yoga students,

Non-attachment is one of the most difficult aspects of our practice to attain.  We attach ourselves to an ideal of what our life should look like, what our yoga practice should feel like, what our world should be like and then only create suffering when it does not measure up.  To truly be in the process, present to the here and now is a gift.   When we walk through that doorway, we feel the guilt, shame and anxiety, which have become like guests who have overstayed their welcome, slip away.  We all deserve to be free, we all deserve to experience joy and true joy and freedom is only found in one place:  the here and now…

If you plan on joining in for Beach Yoga, we will meet at my house and carpool down to Hallock Landing Beach  – Check Email or FB Page by 5pm to see if class will be on the beach or in our yoga room.  If you decide to drive down on your own, please be mindful of the “No Parking” Signs.  Contact me if you have any questions.  I hope to continue this beautiful tradition of taking our yoga outdoors and I appreciate your patience as we work out the details.  I promise you, it is worth it!!!

Yoga this Week – April 6, 2013

Only as a spiritual warrior can one withstand the path of knowledge. A warrior cannot complain or regret anything. His life is an endless challenge and challenges cannot possibly be good or bad. Challenges are simply challenges. The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge, while an ordinary man takes everything
as a blessing or a curse.                                             – Don Juan
Greetings to all my peaceful warriors who week after week face the ultimate challenge of coming face to face with their bodies, minds and spirits on their yoga mats.  Breathe in the energy of spring and be present to all the love that surrounds you.

“You are seeking joy in far off places, but the spring of joy is in your heart.  The haven of peace is in yourself”

Thank you all for journeying  through the chakra system these past seven weeks with me.  As always, it is an honor and a pleasure to be able to bring these sacred teachings to you.   Our study of the body, mind and spirit with its complex movement of energy never ends.  Through asana, meditation, chanting, and spiritual studies, we learn how to be grounded, creative, powerful, compassionate, expressive and wise so we can connect to spirit and the grace thats available to us in our lives.   I stand in awe at our  body’s capacity for healing and guiding us back to wholeness; to our orginal state of equanimity, love and peace because I both know this to be true and I see it in all of you week after week as you committ to your practice and yourself.

Therapeutic Yoga – Yoga is for Everyone

Therapeutic Yoga – Wednesdays 11  to 1215pm

Yoga is for everyone.  If you can breathe, you can do yoga.  Yoga is a cultivation of inner peace, acceptance and self love.  It is more than the ability to touch your toes or stand on your head.

This class will afford students who may have hesitated to join a typical class the opportunity  to experience the amazing transformative power of yoga in thier lives; body, mind and spirit.

“Therapeutic Yoga” will be a very gentle class, catering to those that have special situations, recuperating from surgery, have limited mobility or simply want to ease into yoga practice in a gentle, safe way.   We will use chairs and props if needed and each pose/movement will be modified so that everyone can experience the deep healing yoga offers  in their own unique way. We will begin each class with gentle breath  work and end with a fifteen minute relaxation posture incorporating some reiki energy healing and essential oils.

rest yoga

This class will run on four week monthly sessions and will be limited to 8 students.  Payment of $55 prior to start of session will cover all four classes.  On a drop in basis, if space allows, the fee will be $16 per class and require prior notice to ensure space is available.   Let me know if you or anyone you know would benefit from this class are interested.

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart. ~
                                               Marcus Aelius Aurelius

Greetings dear yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you fostering a sense of grateful anticipation for the day and week ahead.  Acceptance of life circumstances does not mean to give in, give up or throw in the towel.  Acceptance is looking at what fate has brought to your door, examining the facts with an open heart and clear mind and then from deep within gather the courage to  do what you need or do – which in some instances is the courage to do absolutely nothing.  Whenever we are at odds with something, feel “off-kilter” or are experiencing anxiety, it usually can be traced back to our inability to accept what is happening in the present moment.  The moment we begin to trade our expectations in for acceptance, we experience a shift in perspective and sometimes, as if miraculously,   the limits begin to fade or change shape..  Acceptance enables us enjoy the senery of our lives the way it is, even if it is not what we expected.  So dive in to the present moment of your life today and meditate on the areas that you meet with resistance;  breathe a compassionate breath, bless your circumstances, love the people who join you on your journey with all your heart and find the peace and serenity that comes with true acceptance.

December 30, 2012 – Happy New Year!

“Leap, and the net will appear” John Burroughs

Celebrate, dream and allow the empty pages of the year ahead to be filled with a vision of hope, happiness, fulfillment and abundance for yourself and your life. Use this brand new beginning to let go of old ways of being that do not serve you any longer making room for new perspectives and attitudes that empower you to empower others. Much like in our yoga asanas, we ground down to rise up, letting go actually allows you move forward. So take time time to breathe into your many positive qualities and let go of negative self-judgement. Bundle up, brave the weather and go take a long walk in the fresh snow making footprints that are all your own!

Yoga this Week – November 3, 2012

“We need to awaken to a common consciousness of all being inhabitants
of Earth. This consciousness is not to be found in some distant place. It will not be found on a computer screen. It lies in our hearts, in our ability to share the pain of our fellow human beings. It is the spirit that says:
“As long as you are suffering, whoever you are and whatever your suffering may be, I suffer also.”
Daisaku Ikeda
Hoping this email finds you all safe and sound. As I had mentioned to those of you who were in class this week, my home is open to anyone in need of a hot shower, electronic charging, laundry or just a some tea, coffee or company. It is so important that we know we can rely on each other for support for whatever we may need. The Shoreham Fire Department is collecting canned goods, clothing and toiletrees for hurricane relief to be distributed to those in need. You can also stop in there to pick up items if needed.
Keep praying for those whose Sandy’s devastation will linger; which for many will be much longer than a week, a month or even year. We are all so vulnerable to the fate that others have suffered. May you sincerely count your blessings and be aware of the abundance you have in your life.

Yoga this Week October 29, 2011

**Please note there will be no classes this week – Normal Schedule resumes on Monday, November 7th and I no longer will be teaching the Sunday Morning Hot Class***

“The most effective way to reduce health costs is to reduce demand,
and the easiest way to do that is by Self-Care.”

                                          Leonard Perlmutter

Hari Om dear yoga students,

Taking time for yourself, right here and now, is what will be most important to your physical, mental and spiritual future.  You most likely have heard many people (or yourself) proclaim “I don’t have the time to take care of myself…I’m just too busy with other demands to fit it in”.  This is truly an ironic statement.  The way I see it is that if we do not find the time for self care today, we will certainly be forced into taking the time later to nurse ourselves back to health (body, mind or spirit) in the future.  So in this day that we call the present, take any amount of time you can spare and do something nurturing for yourself.  Whatever is most appropriate for you today; read something spiritual, funny or uplifting, bundle up and take a walk, do some yoga, make a healthy meal,  take a hot bath or simply slow down the pace and practice being present.  Build up some self-care in the bank of your life and watch how your investment grows, rospers and spills on to everyone in your life.

I will be taking my own advice this week as I travel across the country to Esalen at Big Sur in California to attend a five-day yoga retreat.  My hope is to release, renew and bring some interesting techniques back to all of you!!

Have a wonderful self-nurturing week!!
