Yoga this Week – January 11, 2016 – No Friday Morning this Week

3

Greetings dear Yoga Students,

When you do your yoga practice,  do it for more than the obvious physical benefits.  Yoga gives us an opportunity to connect with that sacred self that lies beneath appearances, beyond belief systems and transcends even time.  Yoga ignites our curiosity and expands our capacity for growth to help create a more meaningful, healthy and vital sense of living, not just for ourselves, but for all we come in contact with.

Yoga this Week – August 3, 2015

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.

Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

Lao Tzu

om on beach

Greetings dearest yoga students,

We are in the midst of changes, some that are natural like aging and children growing up.  Others are spontaneous like suddenly losing your job or winning the lottery.  We all feel anchored in what is familiar to us and are comforted in what we can count on, like an old favorite receipe or comfy chair.  However, whether we want change or not, it comes.  Sometimes slowly and sometimes like a tidal wave sweeping us off our feet.  The best we can do is “let reality be reality” and join in with the flow.  Allow yourself time to grieve the past if you need to but with all the compassion you can muster up, don’t resist change or try to control it. Allow the energy of acceptance to flow towards gratitude for all you are able to experience.  Like a beautiful flowing river, allow your life to flow and ebb and flow, using your precious energy to be a part of it all.

“Yoga is the practice of observing clearly, listening acutely and skillfully responding to the moment with all the compassion we can muster”

Donna Farhi

  2015-07-21 02.59.10

Greetings dear yoga students,

Thank you for your continued dedication to your practice for it is you that will make this world a better place.  By practicing the art of observing, listening and responding skillfully,  you not only bring health and right action to those around you,  but you also become a wonderful example of how a person can move through the world with integrity, kindness and love.  A beautiful student remarked to me that being in class felt like a “homecoming” to her.  Yoga is a homecoming; a homecoming and a connection to your body, your mind. your community and your true nature which has an amazing wellspring of intelligence, joy and compassion waiting just below the surface to shine!!

2015-05-31 10.56.49

“We depend on nature not only for our physical survival. We also need nature to show us the way home, the way out of the prison of our minds. We got lost in doing, thinking, remembering, anticipating; lost in a maze of complexity and a world of problems. We have forgotten what rocks plants and animals still know. We have forgotten how to be— to be still, to be ourselves, to be where life is here and now.”

Eckhart Tolle

The Empowerer

2015-05-31 09.25.32 - Copy

Nature’s power to nurture us never ceases to amaze me.  The natural world reminds us of what is truly important and to let go of the rest.  We humans create all kinds of complex dynamics which keep our minds busy and our bodies tense.  Take time to receive the bounty of beauty that is always there for the taking right outside your door.  Make a special effort to experience nature everyday, either by cultivating your garden, sitting quietly and listening to the birds, feeling the embrace of the wind flowing around you or the tingling warmth of sun on your skin. Observe how the trees remain patient, grounded, growing and still within the movement of life.   Connect, ground down, let go and allow life to flow with the intelligent rhythm of nature and just BE!

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Have faith in your practice and the ability of your yoga to calm, nurture, enliven and release.  When we move our panic energy our practice through breath work, postures, chanting, and/or meditation we effect not only our physical bodies, but our emotional bodies as well.  Moving prana (life force energy) within ourselves allows us to be more open, more willing, more free to connect to that universal prana that is available for the taking and connects us to all beings everywhere.  In essence, it allows us to show up for ourselves and for others in our life.  Trust your yoga to move through you, all you have to do is show up and be present.  Your Yoga mat will catch you if you fall.

“When experiencing this absolute true knowledge,
all previous samskaras (patterns) are left behind and new ones are prevented from sprouting”
Yoga Sutra I.50
 5987d-goddes-01

Hari Om dear yoga students,
The Sanskrit word, samskara, translates as a subconscious impression.  Samskaras are deep seeded patterns that our mind continues to play over and over again.  It is the thoughts, impressions and memories that we have acquired over our lifetimes that create conditioned responses and eventually become our habits. When we feel stuck in our lives or continue to approach situations the same way over and over again, hoping for different results, it is often due to our samskaras.   Obsessions and compulsions have their root in the samskara of past conditions, but they can also produce positive tendencies, like committing to meditate or practice yoga everyday.

As we step on our mat, do our pranayama or sit on our meditation cushion, we face ourselves from the inside.  The stillness within the movement of thoughts breaths or postures help to create space in between our impulses and actions.   The creative art of detaching from our negative patterns allows us to make those much needed changes in our lives.  However, more importantly it allows us to look at our emotional patterns more like the weather around us; we are in the weather but we are not the weather.    The weather changes but we remain the same.  This compassionate awareness reminds us of an even more important point:  That we all feel the same feelings.  The patterns you struggle with are , most likely, the same as others in your life. Ultimately, becoming aware of your own samskaras expands your circle of compassion so you can reach out to others from a place of knowing.  Yoga is all about clearing ourselves so we can go out and help others.  What we heal in ourselves, we heal in the world.

Yoga this Week-February 15, 2015 – Remember to Check Out all the Happenings..Jai!!

“The goal is not to tie ourselves in knots …

we’re already tied in knots.
The aim is to untie the knots in our hearts.
The aim is to unite with the ultimate, loving, and peaceful power in the universe.”

– Max Strom

mother earth globe

Take a breath.  A long, relaxed inhale and hold that fullness, that tightness, those knots for a moment…..and when you are ready, open up your channels and exhale long and deep with a big sigh.   Let go of your worries of the future and regrets of the  past and Be present to all this moment holds.  Notice in detail the vibrant colors and shine, the movement of the wind, the sounds, smells and feelings that are all held in existence around and inside you.  Be the seer, the witness of this miraculous day that we are here and alive.  Untie  the knots that bind your heart and unite with the amazing power of the universe.

In the words of Eckhart Tolle, “Anytime we step into the present moment, we are able to experience the sacredness of life“.

Prana, Teja and Ojas: Vital Essences of Transformation

Dharma Talk, Pranyama & Asana Class

Yoga is an inner alchemical process through which we can develop higher consciousness. We each have the capacity within us to go beyond ordinary human awareness to reach a state of Self-realization.   Prana, Tejas, and Ojas  support health, creativity and well-being. They provide the foundation for deeper yogic and meditational practices.   We will especially focus on how to cultivate Ojas as that is the foundation on which our yoga practice rests. It is responsible for our immunity and on a deeper level, our sense of well-being or our bliss body. Ojas is directly linked with the essence of divine love within and can be cultivated through bhakti yoga and a lifestyle full of wholesome pleasures.

The heart chakra is your most vulnerable place.  When we are hurt in life or love, our first instinct is to build protective walls around ourselves in fear of being hurt again.  These walls, however, only cut us off from the very energy we long for which begins with self-love.  In order to receive or express true compassion and unconditional love, we must first open our heart to ourselves.  Then this beautiful, abundance energy can flow freely, just as the physical heart pumps life giving blood throughout our system, and then receives it back again; the infinite source of compassion, forgiveness and joy that is stored in the recesses of our heart can radiate throughout our lives,  flowing within us, to those around us and then back again.  The  Anahata Chakra holds the ultimate, most powerful healing energy there is on earth and beyond:  Love, Compassion, Forgiveness, Kindness and Joy.
