Yoga this Week – January 20, 2013
Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students,
In these chilly days of winter, give yourself permission to relax. There is a time for action and a time for in-action. Practice sitting amidst the caos, amidst the messy room, amidst the crowded space in your mind and see what happens. Letting go of your “to do list” is just as important as scratching things off. Our inner wisdom knows that we will never be done, that life is not a grand race to the finish line. If our list keeps growing, consider it a blessing that you have work to do in your life. However, there must also be time to take repose, to step back from all the doing and simply be in your life. Let go of the non-essentials in your life today and make space to rest, cuddle, read, meditate, rejuvinate and….enjoy the journey by experiencing the finer things in life.

Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.
Author Unknown
Greetings dearest yoga students,
How many times do we find ourselves “bent out of shape” when things don’t go quite the way we had planned. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to be flexible enough to flow moment to moment in our life adjusting instead of reacting to the situations that occurr? Think about how much more peaceful life would be. Sometimes all it takes is a step back, a moment or more of reflection to think about our part in the situation. To shift our focus on a sollution instead of bringing all of our energies into the problem. This does not mean allowing our personal boundaries to be crossed or negative behavior to continue in or around us. It means taking a step back and being flexible enough, open enough to see the reality of what is happening. To focus our desire on the truth and see where we can adjust and make changes so that we contribute to the sollution. Perhaps in some situations flexibility is simply moving towards acceptance of what we cannot change with compassion and love for all those involved.
What if the only New Years Resolution we had was to simply love ourselves More?

December 30, 2012 – Happy New Year!
“Leap, and the net will appear” John Burroughs
Celebrate, dream and allow the empty pages of the year ahead to be filled with a vision of hope, happiness, fulfillment and abundance for yourself and your life. Use this brand new beginning to let go of old ways of being that do not serve you any longer making room for new perspectives and attitudes that empower you to empower others. Much like in our yoga asanas, we ground down to rise up, letting go actually allows you move forward. So take time time to breathe into your many positive qualities and let go of negative self-judgement. Bundle up, brave the weather and go take a long walk in the fresh snow making footprints that are all your own!

Thank you, Creator of the Universe, for the gift of life you have given me. Thank you for giving me everything that I have ever truly needed. Thank you for the opportunity to experience this beautiful body and this wonderful mind. Thank you for living inside me with all your love, with your pure and boundless spirit, with your warm and radiant light. Thank you for using my words, for using my eyes, for using my heart to share your love wherever I go. I love you just the way you are, and because I am your creation, I love myself just the way I am. Help me to keep the love and the peace in my heart and to make that love a new way of life, that I may live in love the rest of my life. Amen. -From The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students, As requested, the above prayer is the one we all read together on Winter Solstice. It was truly a blessing to have all of you partake in this special celebration. The outpouring of gifts shared; (material, edible, verbal and rhythmic) were so very special and endearing. Setting intentions, publicly with the candle ceramony is always my favorite part. When we come together as a yoga community to both see and be seen, we realize so clearly, that we all share the same common desire; To let go of old, dibilitating thoughts of fear, judgment and anger so the things that truly matter; peace, love, service and gratitude have space flow through us. In this season of lights, may you find the beautiful light that dwells within you. Knowing that when you allow your own inner light to shine, you radiate love, acceptance and peace on all those around you. Be the one to Shine!!! Classes for this Week Thursday Evening at 730pm and Friday Morning at 930am Both classes will incorporate yoga nidra (deep yogic relaxation). (Please sign up or cancel if your plans have changed)

“I’ve come to believe that the highest form of prayer is to pray and yet ask for nothing. To resonate with awareness, acceptance, and gratitude is surely to pray. To breathe and accept gratefully the air that surrounds me into my body…..to be conscious of this, as we breath,
turns the physical practice into a devotional one”

Yoga this Week – December 2, 2012
“Like the descent through layers of tension to rest in the release of Savansana (resting pose), Ishvara pranidhana provides a pathway through the obstacles of our ego toward our divine nature—grace, peace, unconditional love, clarity, and freedom.” Shiva Rea
Greetings Dearest yoga students:
Ishvara (Divine Power or God)-Pranidhana (Attentiveness or Surrender) means to surrender our efforts to the divine power in our lives. This niyama (the last out of five observances outlined in Patanjali’s eight limb yogic path) personifies the idea of living in the truth that in our limited human state we simply do not have the control we like to think we do over our lives and we do not always know what is best for us. However, by paying attention in our yogic practices of meditation, asana or prayer we tap in to the source that guides us in our every decision allowing us to walk through our days with confidence and ease.
Ishvara Pranidhana is practicing detachment from our most safely laid plans, learning to take that next step forward without knowing what will come next. When we are able to look past the selfish desires of the ego by getting out of our own way, we are able to be a clear channel of divine light, illuminating another’s way on this path of life.
“Through surrender the aspirant’s ego is effaced, and . . . grace . . . pours down upon him like a torrential rain.”
BKS Iyengar
