Much Love and Gratitude to all of you who continue to practice here.  We are not only yoga students that come together to practice, we are a community of like-minded individuals raising vibrations collectively to lift the energies within our community and the larger world.     I am truly humbled to be able to bring you this ancient practice in my home in the traditional way it was taught many thousands of years ago!  Much   gratitude to  all who find their way to our yoga room, sangha and into my heart.   Shanti, shanti, shanti!  Ooooommmmmm

Win a 60 Minute Private Session

Put your name in the box everytime you come to class and be in the running for a 60 minute private lesson for you or someone you love.  The busy season ahead causes many of us to skip our self-care practices (like yoga)!  Why not make a commitment to take care of yourself this holiday season and be the best you can be.  The more times you make it to class and your name goes in the box the more chance you have to win.  The hour session can be used in any way you like; reiki, restorative, Vinyasa, meditation, essential oils, etc.  Winner will be drawn mid January

~~

Bring a friend to Yoga and receive a Lavender Oil Roll to Go!

I am now blending essential oils for your pleasure outside the yoga room.  Many of you have asked me about the blends I commonly give out during savasana, click on the link on my website for details on the blends.  Sample them when you come to class!

“In this lovely season when the dance of surrender is obvious, we find large spaces left where something beautiful once lived. As one by one the leaves let go, a precious emptiness appears in the trees.  The naked beauty of the branches can be seen; the birds’ abandoned nests become visible.  The new spaces of emptiness reveal mountain ridges.  At night if you stand beneath a tree and gaze upward, stars now peer through the branches.  This is an important autumn lesson—when certain things fall away, there are other things that can be seen more clearly.  The same truth can be celebrated in our personal lives”

Excerpt from “The Circle of Life” by Joyce Rupp & Macrina Wiederkehr

circle_of_life_by_lionsroar787-d6p0cmu

With the grace of a tree letting go of her leaves with all her majesty and beauty, we learn to let go, making peace with the transitions in our lives. We face the stark reality that nothing lasts forever.  Things ebb and flow, autumn teaches us to honor what is dying, changing and urges us to embrace the fact that everything is always moving and flowing into something new, even if we are standing still.  Chanting one of my favorite mantras yesterday with a group of open, like-minded people, (sa ta na ma – wha hey guru) reminded me to breathe and embrace these inevitable changes.   The circle of life, death, rebirth and infinity tells us that all endings eventually become beginnings and that the walk through the hallway from a door that has closed behind us maybe dark, maybe challenging, but always leads to yet another opening, another awakening or a new perspective.  Go outside and enjoy the spaces in the trees where now the light comes in.  Feel the sun on your face as you chant:  SA TA NA MA – WHA HEY GURU and allow your life to flow.

Never give up. No matter what is going on. Never give up.

Be compassionate. Not just with your friends but with everyone. Be compassionate.

And I say again, Never give up. No matter what is going on around you. Never give up. Never give up.

-The Dalai Lama

~

Sometimes we feel as if we can’t go on. The mountain is too big, the task too daunting, the yoga pose too difficult, the situation too unmanageable.   It is always helpful to remember that even the most incredible tasks begin  by taking the next or first step, however small or insignificant that step may seem, it is a step forward non the less. Even if it means stepping back, collecting your thoughts, formulating a plan or just taking repose.  Keeping our minds on the action we need to take and letting the result rest in the hands of the universe, allows us to be in the present moment, even in difficult times.   You are enough, you have everything you need to move forward.  All you have to do is believe in yourself, let go of excuses and just begin.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.

Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

Lao Tzu

om on beach

Greetings dearest yoga students,

We are in the midst of changes, some that are natural like aging and children growing up.  Others are spontaneous like suddenly losing your job or winning the lottery.  We all feel anchored in what is familiar to us and are comforted in what we can count on, like an old favorite receipe or comfy chair.  However, whether we want change or not, it comes.  Sometimes slowly and sometimes like a tidal wave sweeping us off our feet.  The best we can do is “let reality be reality” and join in with the flow.  Allow yourself time to grieve the past if you need to but with all the compassion you can muster up, don’t resist change or try to control it. Allow the energy of acceptance to flow towards gratitude for all you are able to experience.  Like a beautiful flowing river, allow your life to flow and ebb and flow, using your precious energy to be a part of it all.

Hari Om Dear Yoga Students,

“Santosha, or the practice of contentment, is the ability to feel satisfied within the container of one’s immediate experience”

Donna Farhi

Feeling satisfied within the container of one’s immediate experience means to meet the present moment with a fresh perspective and open up to everything it has to offer.  Satisfaction combines the energies of acceptance and gratitude.  Contentment is not based on what you think you need to be satisfied, but more a sense of gratitude for what you already have.  The ability to feel satisfied within the container of your immediate experience comes when you allow your expectations to fade and your perceptions to clear enabling you to become empty of past impressions;   this is the practice of yoga, this is the practice of Santosha.

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Yoga practice is about being aware.  We connect to our bodies, minds and breath so we can be aware and present to what is happening internally; to the places we need to empower, the places we need to open and the places we need to protect.  Therefore, our yoga is about learning about ourselves.  We study the self so we can better understand why we do the things we do so we can let go of the what is not our true nature.  We learn what actions brings us closer to our higher self and the things that take us further away.  We acquire the patience to be with difficult sensations, whether they are emotional, physical or mental, so the interactions can teach us what we need to know to move us along our path.  “Nothing ever goes away until it teaches us what we need to know”, so embrace your challenges with the pose of the Warrior and stand your ground, be open and embrace the lessons, for they are gifts that come wrapped in the most unlikely packages.

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Have faith in your practice and the ability of your yoga to calm, nurture, enliven and release.  When we move our panic energy our practice through breath work, postures, chanting, and/or meditation we effect not only our physical bodies, but our emotional bodies as well.  Moving prana (life force energy) within ourselves allows us to be more open, more willing, more free to connect to that universal prana that is available for the taking and connects us to all beings everywhere.  In essence, it allows us to show up for ourselves and for others in our life.  Trust your yoga to move through you, all you have to do is show up and be present.  Your Yoga mat will catch you if you fall.

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Listening to this all too familiar song being sung in a not so familiar way last night, allowed me to hear the amazing lyrics as if for the first time.  Those three simple words;” Let It Be”, have such power.  Sometimes all we have to do in times of confusion, sadness, anger, or regret is just to let it be.  Let things be as they are, let people be who they are, let the world be as it is and sit quietly waiting for an answer to come.  All too often we tend to come at a situation with fear and impatience only to find another obstacle that creates yet more anxiety.  While challenging yoga poses can invoke the same panicky pushing, we are reminded to breathe, relax and feel what adjustments we need to make to experience the sukha and sthira(sweetness and steadiness) in the posture.  “There will be an answer, Let it Be” reminds us to breathe, relax and feel as the right answer comes in the still, small voice that is your highest self.
