New Year Detox – Saturday, January 3rd at 8:45am

New Year Detox – Saturday, January 3rd at 8:45am

images (29)

Come and clear body, mind and spirit with an all levels detox flow including a guided chakra meditation and yoga nidra.

We all tend to indulge in rich foods around the holidays but detoxing is more than just physical.  We also may experience emotional heaviness, grief, elation followed by sadness or just plain exhaustion with a sense of being out of balance!

Class will begin with asana infused with flowing,  twisting, forward bending, and kriyas (cleansing practices) for the body, followed by a chakra clearing meditation for emotional grounding and ending with deep yogic relaxation to enliven the spirit.

Please reserve your spot as soon as possible for this special Saturday morning class.  We need at least four students to sign up for class to run.

**Special Note:  Please try not to eat anything heavy for at least 2 hours prior to class as we will be doing cleansing kriyas, pranayama and twisting.

Shanti, shanti, shanti!!!

Sangha

Teach me what I cannot learn alone.

Let us share what we know, and what

we cannot fathom.  Speak to me of

mysteries , and let us never lie to one another

May our fierce and tender longing

fuel the fire in our souls.  When we

stand side by side, let us dare to focus

our desire on the truth.  May we be

reminders, each for the other, that

the path of transformation passes

through the flames.

To take one step is courageous;

to stay on the path day after day,

choosing the unknown, and facing

yet another fear, that is nothing

short of grace.

Greetings Dear Yoga Students,
We all know that change is inevitable, but yet we still long to cling to the known, the familiar, the comfortable.  George Harrison once said, “If we aren’t changing, we aren’t growing”.  Everything that grows must change.  It is just as important to our well being to accept and embrace change as it is to breathe.  Enjoy the moments of your day, embrace all that is in your life with enthusiasm knowing that you will never pass through this day again.  Be open to the shifting landscapes, the rise and fall of emotions, the ebb and flow of energy.  When the waves of change seem to be harsh and the seas are rough around you, remember that you are part of an amazing, vast ocean of movement through which you are inevitably being molded, changed and led in the direction of your divine destiny.

May all hearts be at ease. May our contentment promote the energies to alleviate suffering and turn ignorance into knowledge. May the cultivation of santosha guide us to courageous action, deeper community and greater love of all sentient beings.

                                          Swami Shraddhananda

namaste flow

Greetings Dearest Yoga Students,

Santosha is one of the Niyamas outlined in the eight limbs of yoga.  Niyamas are ethical practices that cultivate inner peace and awareness about ourselves.  Santosha means contentment.  To be content with whatever is.  Having the good fortune of participating in a workshop with Todd Norian this past week enlightened me to a new way of thinking about Santosha.  He spoke about life being a series of problems that need our constant attention, creativity, compassion and openness.  We all know that once one issue, obstacle or problem is solved, right behind it rolls in another one, like waves on the ocean; the issues may seem bigger, smaller or take a different shape, but never the less, they keep coming.  What Todd so eloquently eluded to is that all we really need to change is our perspective; to change our obstacles into stepping stones on which we grow.  To be content in the action of solving, resolving or figuring out solutions while letting go of the result.  Contentment is now, not when things get better, not when we have all we think we need, it is now, in this moment.  It allows us to love all of life, opening our hearts and clearing it out of judgment as to what we consider “good” or “bad”.  Contentment allows our hearts to be at ease and turns our ignorance into knowledge.

“Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. For we are the ones we have been waiting for!”

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Hoping this email finds you well and allowing yourself time to transition into this fall season that is upon us.  Try to let go of your struggles today.  Our lives truly are a sacred expression of the love we hold  within.  The moment of sacredness is always now and is always a choice we make.  Our sadhanda (practice) teaches us that in the present moment, the abundance of the universe is available to us and we are exactly where we should be.  The more we practice bringing ourselves back to the present moment, the more we can live in that sacred space that is full of compassion, wholeness and healing.  Just as the journey from the head to the heart is only one breath away, the journey from the unreal to the real is within our reach.  Stop waiting for yourself to be more, do more or have more resources available to you to live from your heart’s desire.  You are the one you have been waiting for.  You are already whole, look inside to your inner light to guide you towards your soul’s purpose focusing on completing even the most mundane of tasks as sacred celebrations.  Just as your awareness in your yoga postures should spread to every part of your body, each part equally important, allow your awareness to spread to every task, every breath, every word you speak to rest on the sacredness that is within and around you.

Be Self-controlled!
Give!
Be Compassionate!
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
wide forward bend
This is the true aim of yoga, this is the goal.  To learn to control the mind when it leans towards selfishness, egoism, fear and negativity.  The ultimate aim of all our yoga practices are to bring our focus inward so we realize all the peace we seek comes from our true divine nature.  A yogi feels the lack of noting, therefore, there is no need for hoarding, competition or greed.  The yogi knows all comes from and all will return to the divine source; that in our natural state we are all one.
Be Self-Controlled by following an ethical path. Give by coming from a place of abundance.  Be Compassionate so others can gain strength from your strong spirit.
This is the aim of yoga, these are the true goals.

The goal is not to tie ourselves in knots …

we’re already tied in knots.
The aim is to untie the knots in our hearts.
The aim is to unite with the ultimate, loving, and peaceful power in the universe.”

– Max Strom

Yoga helps us to “untie the knots” not only in our overworked, overstressed bodies but also in the parts of our hearts that we seemed to have closed.  Focus your attention on this “ultimate, loving and  peaceful power in the universe” and let it calm, soothe and give you the courage and strength to untie, unwind and open up the flood gates of your hearts.  When the heart chakra is open and free, we have the ability to love and be loved, unconditionally,  and there is absolutely no greater force than that in this world or beyond.

Await the auspicious moment when one will be free from pleasure and pain, desire and a sense of worldly gain–since, attention should be on the perfection of means and not the end, which is bound to follow if the means are perfected.  To accomplish this one should scrupulously observe all aspect of sadacara

 Avalon Yoga Hike
Be gentle with yourself and others as you strive to walk this road less traveled remembering that we truly cannot become enlightened beings by simply sitting on a meditation cushion, doing yoga poses or reading spiritual material;  WE MUST ADHERE TO AN ETHICAL PRACTICE if we are to move forward in our journey back home to our true selves and do the work we were meant to do in this lifetime. When our intention is pure, our paths will become illuminated like moonlight on a dark night and others will follow your example. Allow yourself to take risks, be willing to be vulnerable;  there is a song in your heart waiting to be sung and in walking the true and right path you will find inside you the ability to give yourself fully to your unique, beautiful style of music that lives inside your soul.

“Again and again ~ Return like Mountain ~ Release like Ocean ~ Relax like Sky ~And Rest ~ Rest in the Heart of Pure Awareness” Living Buddha

yoga green tree

Greetings dear yoga students,

This quote reminds me that there is a need for us to keep coming back again and again to rest in our true selves. However, to balance our energies we must seek different modalities to meet our ever changing needs; sometimes we need to relax like the sky,  be still like a  mountain or release the past  like the ocean.  Tune in to exactly what you may be needing today.  Draw upon the power of nature to nurture you and give you what you need.  As the season transitions to shorter days and longer nights, you may feel your energy, mood and mind shifting so try and adjust your daily round to help you be true to yourself.  In this way we begin to live in the natural rhythms of nature, returning again to rest in the awareness of the heart and what truly matters in your life.
