Yoga this Week – March 18, 2018

The ego is a monkey catapulting though the jungle;

Totally fascinated by the realm of the senses,

it swings from one desire to the next,

  one conflict to the next,

one self-centered idea to the next.

If you threaten it, it actually fears for its life.

Let this monkey go.

Let the senses go.

Let desired go.

Let conflicts go.

Let ideas go.

Let the fiction of life and death go.

Just remain in the center, watching.

Then forget that you are there.

Yoga this Week & USB Interview – March 4, 2018

Greetings dearest yoga students,

Yoga teaches us to enjoy and trust the process; to have the right intention and alignment and let go of the results.  If we can simply learn to trust and have faith in our own capacity for our highest selves to show up, we may find true, uncontrived freedom of expression as well as the ability to be courageous in difficult moments.  What is your vision today, can you hold that in your heart and mind and trust the process?

I had such a wonderful time joining Captain Phil at 90.1 USB Radio Station on Friday night.  If you would like to give a listen to my interview, click on one of the links below.  I come on at about 28 minutes in.  The interview ends with one of my favorite songs by a wonderful local musician, Rory Kelly, it’s called “If You Teach a Bird to Sing”  Hope you enjoy it!

Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha

Hari Om Dearest Yoga Students,

In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Sutra 1:2 gives us the true meaning of yoga practice:  To still the every moving fluctuations of the mind.  The “Chitta” is like the lens we see the world through.     Our Chitta is colored, or clouded, by the vritti’s;  the things we have been taught, the society we live in, the family we grew up with and the experiences that have made an impression on us as we grow.  These perceptions can keep our mind in constant fluctuation (vritti) and  block our awareness of our higher consciousness (Buddhi) or ability to discern, intuit and understand deeper meanings in our lives.

Yoga – to Unite    Chitta – Consciousness     Vritti – Fluctuations    Nirodhah – Quieting of

The practice of yoga is to clear  our lenses (Chitta’s)  so that we see things as they really are, clear of personal attachment to outcomes, beliefs and misconceptions.  This is the goal of yoga. this is why we practice.  To clear our bodies and minds of habitual patterns so we can open up to what is truly important and true in our lives.  So we can open up to the wisdom of our higher self that is always looking out for our good and the good of all.

Yoga this Week – January 28, 2018

“Life is a Learning Curve” is the quote my 19 year old snowboarding, drumming, stay-up-all-niter college freshman decided to get tattooed on his inner forearm next to the autism puzzle piece in honor of his older brothers journey navigating life on the spectrum.

Image may contain: one or more people and closeup

These days we have a habit of saying that quote often when we come up against something new, hard, difficult, exciting or confusing. Life IS a learning curve. Do we ever stop learning? Transitions, pain, sorrow, winning, defeat, even success all have a learning curve at their core and what make up a growing life.  After all, wouldn’t the drive just be a tedious ride if all the roads were straight? It really are those curves that drive us forward, empowering and creating empathy, compassion and resilience as we tackle each one.   Like waves on the ocean the learning will keep rolling in. Some of the waves will be easy,  rolling gently and slowly onto the shore and some will crash us right from behind and slam us down on our backs. It’s all a learning, a moving forward, through and back and forth again.   Whenever you hear that inner critic or that debilitating fear rise up” that tells you “you can’t handle this” try and repeat the mantra “Life is a Learning Curve” ; tattoo it on your arm if you need to and remind yourself you are not supposed to have all the answers and that learning is gives your life meaning your your heart a chance soar.

Yoga this Week – November 12, 2017

Dearest Yoga Students,

Many changes continue to take place in all of our lives.  Some welcome and some not so welcome, however, I have found they always do lead to an opening, a shift that takes shape and becomes something new and wonderful to explore.  Our yoga practice helps us to learn to meet changes head on with steadiness and ease.  We can take a breath, hold our pose with tenderness and watch the changes take place.  Yoga teaches us that our lives, our bodies  and our minds are malleable, shapeable and that we are never stuck.  We can grow, adapt and become more courageous than we ever thought we could when we let go of fear and walk through that doorway of change.

A snippet of our Equinox Goddess Retreat!!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Marianne Williamson

Our third annual Equinox Goddess Retreat was amazing; the weather, the space, the place and all the Goddesses were breathtakingly beautiful.  Words cannot describe the gratitude I feel for this experience!  Onward and inward we go to the lovely season of Autumn!

 Greetings dear yoga students,

Yoga puts us in touch with that part of ourselves that remembers what we have forgotten;  that we are whole, we are strong, that we can endure and we can meet our lives with grace, steadfastness, integrity and joy.  Once we touch this inner realm, we will never be the same again!
